GVK #63: Pete Schweddy – Burnside 2011
I have renewed my Burnside skatepark membership and frequent it often. Well on this particular day it was Pete Schweddy A.K.A Alec Baldwin. Even tho the action was low it was a heated tech session until Boo-ya showed up and the big bowl started to getting some action. Enjoy the music of Eduard Khil a Russian a crooner. The Name of the song is Trololo. Which Kinda means (Watching the Cowboys come home). Which in 1976 was illegal to sing in Russia. “Pete Schweddy” Burnside 2011
Tom Miller to become head of Portland Transportation
Former SPS board member Tom Miller will be stepping down as the Chief of Staff for Portland’s Mayor Sam Adams in order to replace the retiring director of the Transportation Bureau. Oregon Live reports that the position oversee 750 employees and has a $250 million annual budget. The picture above is credited to the Wall Street Journal but I found it over at the Portland Mercury where they call him “the mayor’s controversial, skateboarding chief of staff.” I didn’t know Tom was controversial. I mean as far as I know, he doesn’t push mongo or grab stinkbug. Congratulations Tom. I predict that in the not too distant future S&A will have the pleasure of reporting the first skateboarding mayor of a major city. I should be sponsoring him. I missed a golden photo opportunity. Looks like that’s a Scarecrow deck. – Thanks to Sam for the tip.
New Year’s send off
On the last day of the year a crew from Albany, Oregon made a trip up to Portland to sessions some spots and say farewell to 2010. Micha Lawrence shot some photos of Brandon Rowton, Robert Selph and Ryan Gray. Check ’em out after the jump.
Brooklyn Street in the Portland Mercury
There’s an article about the Brooklyn Street Skate Spot in the Portland Mercury. The picture is old, because phase one is done, right down to the pool coping! Disturbing news though, according to the article, Portland’s light rail is set to impinge on the spot’s footprint as early as 2014. However, I’m not sure if the author did her research, that might just be a reference to the fact that the pedestrian bridge is scheduled to be demolished. The MAX would have to pull eminent domain on all the adjacent buildings and homes too. We’ll see…. There’s also an appearance from the neighborhood sourpuss who again reiterates his displeasure that the whole thing didn’t go through the proper channels. [Photo: David Lansdown]
GVK #60: Burnside Halloween 2010
The good, the rad, and the colorful showed up for Burnside’s 20th anniversary; a skate event that accepts all types. Sometimes there is too much testosterone flowing in a session. This was not the case at the Hallowenis event. I witnessed many bare-chested men with erect nipples; a clear sign of arousal. Be it skateboarding or bare-chestedness, both were out in full force at this yearly tribute to diversity and alternative lifestyles. Here’s a bit of what I saw.

Capsule Rat says celebrate Burnside’s 20th
Big Halloween bash this year at Burnside. Should be bigger than usual considering it’s the 20 year anniversary. Like Jay Meer says, pray for dry weather. Dashboard is actually showing 59 degrees, partly cloudy and dry. Let’s hope it holds. Anybody help out with the pour yesterday? Flyer after the jump, or check out some photos of the party dress at Skate Daily.
Burnside pouring today
That is, if the lights and yesterdays crew lasted long enough. Grover had his camera in tow again, and he even managed to unearth the long lost relative of the Caddy Shack gopher, Benny the Burnside Rat.
