Call for Art: 3rd Annual BCSA Art and Music Benefit!
The Benton County Skateboard Alliance is announcing a call for art for their 3rd Annual Art and Music Benefit: The Benton County Skateboarding Alliance (BCSA) is hosting the 3rd annual Art & Music Show to raise money to improve the Eric Scott McKinley Skate Park in Corvallis, OR. Improvements include a new pro-style bowl, advanced street obstacles, lights, BBQ pits, and benches. We need $75,000 to $90,000 for the first phase (the bowl). This is a community art show, and all art media and styles are accepted. All art in the show will be up for silent auction. We ask that a minimum of 51% of art sold go to the skate park fund. The show is planned for March 13th, 2010. Art submission deadline is February 15th, 2010. If you are interested in submitting art for this show, please contact the BCSA: bcskateboardingalliance@gmail.com. The BCSA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization; donations are tax deductable. For more BCSA info, see their website: bcskateboardingalliance.org Word is that the new venue is a bit of an upgrade from previous years. We’re going to try and send a party from Skate and Annoy down this year. I’m going to see if I can…

Early Burnside video and TV news coverage
I’d place this video at maybe 93-94? That’s my layman’s-I-wasn’t-there guess. It was posted on YouTube by Nate Sherwood, so it’s mostly footage of him as a youngster, but mid way through there is some amusing footage from a local Portland news channel. Seems to be from shortly after the city of Portland decided to leave it alone. Look for Mark Scott in a Turf t-shirt. – Thanks to Malcolm MacMaster for the tip.
Gresham Oregon skatepark open
Phase One of the Gresham skatepark built by Dreamland is now open for fun, provided you play by the rules. Phases two and three are distant, and unfunded dreams so far as anyone knows. [Photo: City of Gresham] – Thanks to Bjjpd Tom for the tip
SOTW 1-11-10: Willis Kimbel at West Linn
I think it’s been over a year since I’ve been to this park. The neighbors have probably chilled out, now that there are more parks in the area to take the heat off. Willis Kimbel at West Linn. Photo by POX at Levil Uniform. I like lens flare, do you? Check out the Shot of the Week.
Eden from Exit
More things going on in my own back yard that I know nothing about. Portland’s Eden Powers as seen on VIMBY. Some great moves in there, plus a hard face plant on the side of a wall, not to mention a bunch of places that I don’t skate at. I need to get out more. Well, that and a knee replacement.
Shot of the Week: Are you taking my picture?
Hey you! Hey! Are you taking my picture? MY picture?!!! Well alright! We’re big fans of the dork session here, obviously, and so are Gabe Stoltz (as seen above) and Kevin Porterfield from Dokument Boardshop or Skatecamp… Err, what’s going on in Salem, Kevin? Whew. It’s been a while since I updated the Shot of the Week. I got out of the habit when I was dealing with hackers and hosting woes, but it’s back.

Check out the design renderings and video fly throughs at SkateEugene.org. – Thanks to Chad and Sarib for the tip.
