Skirdoosh!
This video would be pretty good if only these guys had a sense of humor, some skills on a skateboard and a fake corporate sponsor of course.
Epoxies reunion show
Before you get your hopes up, this was a one off reunion gig at a benefit. In fact, FM Static distinctly warned the crowd that they should “…go nuts now cause it ain’t gonna fucking happen again!” Well, Epoxies fans can only hope he’s not a man of his word.
Portland’s Department of Skateboarding closing doors?
I’ve heard from a couple of different sources (some of them reliable even!) that The Department of Skateboarding, or D.O.S., will be shutting down at some point mid-summer. The rumor is that the building was sold, and the bowl is scheduled to be closed down as early as June, with the rest of it to follow possibly in August. This seems at odds with their posted summer camp schedule. Colin has an associate of D.O.S. scheduled to appear on his radio show on June 16th. Maybe we’ll get an answer then. It will be a blow to Portland’s skate scene if D.O.S. does shut down. It’s the only indoor street course of any mentionable square footage accessible to the public in the greater Portland area. No word on what this might mean for the attached Cals Pharmacy skate shop, a long time fixture in Portland. [Image: SkateAllCities]
Streets On Fire screening Monday to benefit Jake Stults Memorial Fund.
Jake Stults died of brain injuries resulting from a skateboard accident. He was an Oregon resident and teacher who had ties to the New York/New Jersey hardcore scene. The benefit is to help his family deal with the massive medical bills incurred while trying to save his life. Even if you didn’t know him, it’s still a good opportunity to see a great classic skate video on the big screen. Monday, June 7, 2010. 7:00pm at the Hollywood Theatre, 4122 NE Sandy Blvd, Portland, OR. $5 at the door, plus a raffle. Details on Facebook.
There’s a new skatepark, skatepark, skatepark…
…in Echo, Oregon. Thanks to Sam from Skate Oregon for this report: Eastern Oregon continues blowing up with the little town of Echo (population 700) opening a nice little “Community Skatepark” this afternoon. Grindline made them a great 4000 square foot (?) concrete shape not dissimilar to Portland’s Gabriel Park: shallow top to hip hip deeper bowl. It is open to skateboards, inline skates, and bikes. While not yet on the official city web page, they do have a Facebook page for the skatepark. And of course, Sam has some shots up at the granddaddy skatepark sites, SkateOregon. Now I have to go look up Echo, Oregon on Google Maps.
Matt Kline’s fundraiser bowl jam is on
It’s been raining on and off here in Portland for the past few days. You’re itching to skate right? Fuel TV’s Pool Party webcast is going to be totally clogged, so maybe you should pack up the RV and head down to Matt Kline’s in Grants Pass for the bowl jam tomorrow. Matt called and said it’s on. He can tarp the bowl if necessary.
Skirdoosh on Friday
Steven Reeves has a video premiere this Friday at Plan B. I haven’t seen anyhting since Bailgun, but that was 2008 (!) I’m sure he hasn’t been dormant since then, aside from appearing on Calling on Colin. Should be good.
Park Slalom in West Linn on Saturday
Park slalom is back in West Linn. Skate Legion has the low down, but it’s pretty much the same info you see in the flyer above. Man, I haven’t been to West linn in… I’m gong to say two, possibly three years. I wonder if the neighbors have relaxed now that there are so many other Portland area skateparks open. Stp by the contest and say hello to former S&A contributer and contest co-organizer Mike Estes.
Lincoln City redux – Part 1
Doling them out to you a little bit at a time. Thanks again to Danimal for the pics.
Volunteer opportunity
Be a good neighbor and come help out for a couple of hours at the Pier Park Pickup SOLV event tomorrow from 9am – 1 pm. We’ll be doing trash pickup and graffiti coverup at the skatepark. Breakfast treats from Tulip Pastry Shop and hot coffee from Starbucks.
