Tourists
Here’s a video from a shop in Atlanta called Stratosphere. These guys went on on a road trip to a land of magical concrete that looks amazing, I wish I knew where all these parks were…. Oh yeah. Dang that Lincoln City looks fun. Check out the vid after the jump. – Thanks to Eric Fleming for the tip.
Brooklyn Street Benefit Tonight
All ages benefit show, 8pm tonight the Atristery (4315 SE Division St, Portland, OR) featuring White Fang, Gepetto, Oak Rot and Moth Dust. Door open 7:30pm. Show starts at 8pm. $5-10 suggested donation. If you decide you absolutely have to move obstacles outside of the confines of Brooklyn Street (see above left) – please put it back when you leave. It looks like a blast, but it will not help with public relations and the neighbors.
Discoboard in Eugene
This mirrored discoboard is almost a year old. I spotted it over at YoBeat’s coverage of an old art show benefit for the Eugene skatepark. No word on who the artist was. It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything from Eugene. There’s a sobering infographic on the Skaters for Eugene Skateparks web site. There’s about $370,000 in the kitty, but they’re still 400k in the hole. Eugene’s ABC affiliate has a video about the state of the union from last August on their web site. For some reason it takes a few minutes to load after the pre-roll commercial.
Albany Contest Saturday
Red Cement Skateboards is hosting the 10th (!) annual skateboard contest at the Albany, Oregon skatepark on Saturday.
A Miracle
Extra! Extra! Read all about it! Newspaper from mid-level city actually publishes a decent skate photo! Astonishing considering they are essentially giving the Oregonian away these days. Not a week goes by that I don’t get a phone call practically begging me to get the Oregonian for delivered to my door for pennies on the dollar. I’d be more inclined to fill my recycling bucket with the paper if the delivery man (not a boy, because he drives a car on his route) would stop nailing the storm door with the paper and waking me up at 5 in the morning. What’s the point? Oregon lottery money has apparently been funding skateparks in some capacity, and some folks are upset because school funding is and other services have been dwindling. Oregon ballot measure 76 will extend the mandatory parks expenditures from lottery proceeds. The measure isn’t going to increase the 15%, it’s just going to make sure it can’t be diverted to other areas. I think that’s a good idea. I’m voting yes on 76. – Thanks to Colin for the tip.
Power Rider Wheels Premier and Benefit
The Portland premier of the Power Riders Wheels video titled Plug in Tune Out is Saturday 18th @ 9 pm, at the A&L Sports Bar at 60th and Glisan. $5 dollars at the door goes to help rebuild the Scott barn that recently burned down. Trailer after the jump.
The day the laughter died
Every once and a while I remember to put some actual skateboarding on this site. I’ve been sitting on these photos for a couple of years. This was in the land of the Swoosh, in fact, almost in it’s shadow.
Brooklyn Street
I’m freely admitting to filling space here. Some of the things purchased with recent fundraising efforst include sand, gravel a generator, and of course concrete. They’ve got a plan. Make one of these in your neighborhood.
Rion Linderman got married?
He also got 4th place overall in the Trifecta. I was going to say Rion is a good kid, but I guess he really hasn’t been a kid for a while. Congrats Rion! Why do I care about Rion? He is/was a good kid. we used to sponsor him, and he rips. Sorry about the McTwist picture man. it’s the easy go to pic. You could have been a king in the 80’s. He does more than McTwists. He also remains the youngest skater to complete the loop at Reedsport, Oregon. He was 15 at the time. Here’s a recent video from his sponsor Addikt Skateboards. This is for the Roseburg homies.
