Frankenstein’s Monster Energy Drink
Another skateboard appearance in the Bizarro strip. I have no idea when the original publication date is. This image showed up in a facebook feed. – Thanks to Jim Ferrell for the tip.
Don’t they?
This Sunny Street cartoon dates back to 2012, and I may have posted it here before, but I can’t find it. For future reference: This is a post about an injured horse riding a skateboard.
Peanuts: June 20th, 1965
Peanuts Wikia says this cartoon of sally on roller skates while the rest of the gang rides skateboards, including Linus, Snoopy, and some random kid whose name I can’t figure out even with the help of wikipedia, which has an extensive listing of main and minor characters in Peanuts. Newspapers across the country have been rerunning “Classic Peanuts” strips since Charles Schulz died. The ones you can see on Peanuts.com have all been colorized, and in the case of the Sunday versions, reformatted slightly. Charles always treated skateboarding with respect in his strips. Whenever they appeared they were matter of fact, and not used for a pratfall. Catch the colorized version after the jump. – Thanks to Jodie Taylor for the tip.
Baby Blues plus Calvin & Hobbes
Two comics that were originally sent to me as fuzzy low light photographs by MC. They’ve both turned up online. At the top is Baby Blues, from January, 2013. The second Calvin and Hobbes strip originally ran May 2nd, 1987. Bill waters has a new book out and unfortunately, a bunch of dead links on his website.
Tommy’s Bliss
From the comic strip Biss, by Harry Bliss. See it in color here. Tommy looks like a middle aged man. – Thanks to Mrs Kilwag’s mom for the tip.
Can you find 3 things wrong?
Another Bizarro strip from Dan Piraro. Notice the skateboard action in the upper right corner. You might remember the Gettysburg Tweet? Bizarro is one of the few funny comic strips in syndication anymore. This is a Piraro/Bizarro take on the classic kid’s magazine exercise of finding something wrong with an illustration. Dan, if you’re reading this, send your skateboard comics this way. – Thanks to Jazz Pickle MC for the tip.
Maxine at the Olympics
I watched quite a bit of the Olympics, enjoyed some of the action. I did not enjoy the shitty coverage courtesy of NBC. I think I was a week into it before I realized there were other events besides gymnastics and swimming. One thing I did not miss, skateboarding in the olympics. I poached this Maxine cartoon from the Maxine facebook page via Nick Dawson.
Sunday Funnies
A two-fer in the sunday funnies yesterday. 1st up is Mother Goose and Grimm (You missed that one Marek!) and a little deeper in is Luann.
Bizarro
There’s something inherently funny about the idea of Abe Lincoln on a skateboard. Ask MC, he’s heard me discuss the idea before (Abe and I also share a birthday-MC). If ever there was an heir apparent to the Far Side, it’s got to be the slightly darker Bizarro. Before the holidays he ran this cartoon called The Gettysburg Tweet. The artist Dan Piraro has it in color on his blog. I like that he posts his comics on his site without removing them after a period of time like so many other syndicated comics. I wonder if he had to negotiate that in his contract.
Sunday Funnies
Here’s two marginally skateboard themed comics fromthe Sunday funnies. Baby Blues is a week old and Cul-De Sac was from two days ago.
