Leo Baker
Leo Baker (né Lacey Baker) coming out as transgender has all the narrow-minded and transphobes up in arms, especially because it meant he couldn’t represent his country at the Olympics. Oh for shame, for shame… Yes, the skateboarding community is gradually becoming more inclusive to the LGBQT population, but you know, there’s still a lot of knuckleheads out there, especially when it comes to so-called “core” skaters. Although I’m sure it only scratches the surface, this Time Magazine article provides really good insight into Leo’s journey and decision. It’s a must read for anybody that naively parrots “Why doesn’t he just skate and leave his personal life out of it?” [Photos: Ethan James Green for TIME]
Brian Anderson Playboy Interview
Brian might not be the first Anderson you think of when it comes to Playboy. How it all shaking out for him, post coming out in Vice? Turns out, very well. Read about it in his interview in Playboy. It’s a good follow up to an excellent video. I do take issue with the headline Playboy’s editor’s chose. It basically says, “Brian opens up about opening up.” I want to interview him about this interview, just so I can title the post “Brian Anderson opens up about opening up about coming out.”
Brian Anderson on being a gay, professional skateboarder.
This is the best thing Vice media has ever done. Vice Sports presents Brian Anderson on being a gay, professional skateboarder. Time (long ago) to check your homophobia. When is Brian going to come out about being a John Krasinski impersonator?
Skaters Against Homophobia
I saw a color version of this floating around Facebook, so I tried to track down the original which it turns out was done by Ben Jensen, and was not a specific response to sad events in Orlando. It’s been out for at least 9 months, and you can get them at Antique Skate as well as No Gods No Masters.
