Go Diego Go (to the bathroom)
Night time pull up diapers for relieving potty training stress. Go Diego Go riding a skateboard. There’s some snowboard and hang gliding action too. Pampers Easy Ups is the product. And No, we haven’t picked up NAMBLA as a sponsor. Uhm, Enlarge-o-rama.
Bah Humduck!
Porky Pig gets r-r-radical with some X-Mas skateboarding action in this 2006 Looney Tunes special titled Bah Humduck!. It’s another adaptation of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, with Daffy as the greedy owner of a department store.
In the best interest of the sport
It’s conceivable that these trucks might work well enough for a beginner. The technology dates back to the 50’s here, and believe it or not, I think there are some dirtboard, excuse me, mountainboarding trucks out there right now that are based on the same design. Still, call me cynical, but have to believe the decision to used these wacky trucks was based purely on profit motive. Maybe at the time these were a dollar cheaper than a traditional truck. May not sound like much, but multiply by thousands and then some in projected sales… On the one hand, the X-Games provide a way for an immediate group of skateboarder to make a living off of skateboarding, and a larger group through association. On the other hand, they peddle crap like this, or at least they used to. I don’t think they make this anymore. – Thanks to Matthijs van Wijk for the tip.
Huckle’s Opposites
As a kid I always loved Richard Scarry’s books. Something about those chunky little anthropomorphized animals with their stubby arms really appealed to me. It might have been the detailed surroundings of Busytown or the inherent sense of humor in the illustrations. Now I dig reading these to my kids. This panel here is from a board book called “Huckle’s Opposites,” and it features one of my favorite characters, good old Lowly Worm. He’s only got one shoe, yet he still manages to ride a skateboard. He may push mongo, but his skateboard is stylish. Hang on, how does he push at all? Is that a Chuck Taylor? You can investigate the answers yourself by picking up your own copy from the dollar bins at Target.
Number one with a bullet
Sure, the “Wild Things” movie was the top gross at the box office last weekend, but MC was into it before Spike Jonze. My wife refused to have her face shown in this picture. Get your shirt from Antigravity Press. Noticeably absent from the soundtrack, X and Tone Loc.
Sidewalk swamp surfer
I stumbled on Shrek, the sidewalk swamp surfer puzzle while I was researching the possibility of having vinyl toy GVK skateboard figures made. (It’s not going to happen, folks. ) I havent seen this puzzle in the wild, but then again, I haven’t been looking either.
Birthday BS
More skateboarding birthday party paraphernalia, once again thanks to Larry Pescatore. I dig the big poster with the face cut out that you are supposed to hang in front of a door way for photo opps. I see GVK making one of those. Enlarge-o-rama.
SOTW 9-21-09: Off roading at the campground
I haven’t updated Shot of the Week at all in September! Here’s Jack Grover hitting the natural terrain near at a campground near Bend. The best part about this session was hearing Jack afterwards trying to round everyone up to go to back to “the skate spot” which ended up being a short path from the pavement to the bathroom. Steve had shots that were framed and exposed better, but I liked this one because it somehow captured two distinct wheel positions without a flash. Look closely at the back truck. Check out the Shot of the Week.
Come on people now.
Smile On Your Brother is a skate art auction to benefit Contributor, a Canadian initiative to donate skateboards to kids who can’t afford them. Looks like starting bid is $125 but hey, they’re completes! Featured board is by Devin Barrette. Auction runs between August 24th and October 25th, 2009.
Spiderman airwalk
14 year old Kyle Ohlson keeps sending me photos. I’ve advised him to size down his watermarks and lay of the photoshop filters, and he takes my advice and sends me more photos. So here you go Kyle. This shot above is Jake Selover. Apparently the locals at this Bend skate spot have taken to wearing costumes on their Friday night sessions just for the heck of it. Whether or not they are also taking advice from GVK is unknown. More after the jump.
