Nonstop Hef Hop

Portland brewery Hopworks has traditionally been bike-centric in their marketing. Recently I heard they were trying to engage skateboarding more. I thought I saw an image of Sasquatch riding a skateboard a few weeks ago but I can’t find it. It might have had something to do with their Sasquatch Strong Ale or possibly Abominable Winter Ale. Now there’s Nonstop Hef Hop, featuring a bunch of “playtime” activities on the can, some more athletic than others, I mean seriously, corn hole? I have not seen this beer in the wild, but I’m looking forward to collecting the skateboard version of this can, even though the art direction in this series is a little sterile. What they really need to do is establish an advertising presence on some sort of local Portland-based skate blog, if such a thing exists. – Thanks to Pete Lewis for the tip.

Amorphous Jelly Babies Skater Dude

– Thanks to David ODK for the tip. On it’s own, I might not post this guy, unless I already had him in my possession. But something about his amorphous presence is a little disturbing, like some alien sent down to take notes and gradually assimilate and absorb the skateboarding populace into his undulating mass, until he grew to the size of the Stay-Puff marshmallow man. Then there’s the trictionary on the back of the box, often completely wrong or not actually showing the trick it describes. His arm is a lever that opens his backpack for storing Bassett’s Jelly Babies. Very sinister. There’s no date on this, but judging by the board and the description of the item as “vintage” I’m guessing it’s late 90’s or early 00’s. Get yours here.

Somebunny Skateboarding

It started out as a quick and simple operation; Buy a page out of a magazine with a rabbit riding a skateboard, wait for it to arrive in the mail, then scan it and post it. Then, have a discussion with the wife about the basement full of nominally skateboard related materials slowly expanding to fill the available volume. What will become of it after I shuffle off this mortal coil? How will my loved ones know what belongs in landfill as opposed to what might be sold for a modest fee to chip away at a lifetime’s debt? Whatever you do, don’t decide to do any last minute research before you write it up… Nesquik Bunny, or (Quik Bunny, depending on the year) has a character glass, web and video games, print ads and computer themes, but no PVC character. This is most likely, the definitive Nesquik “Quicky” the bunny on a skateboard post. The Nesquik bunny is also an advocate for DIY concrete as well! UPDATE: Found an Italian animated commercial with the Nesquik rabbit riding a skateboard.

Freestyle Pizza

We passed Freestyle Pizza near Umatilla, Oregon on our road trip out east. It didn’t occur to us to actually eat there, but we did stop for pictures. We should have checked if they had custom take out boxes. Grover claims he sent me a shot of this last year, but I must have forgotten to post it. You can view larger versions after the jump. Those are some crazy Jetsons-looking trucks.

Insert mellon grab joke

You know, mellon grabs, and also “Wear a helmet to protect you mellon!” As seen somewhere in North Carolina, (Imported from South Carolina!) Apparently the Coosaw Watermellon rides a skateboard and a surfboard. No visuals on the Coosaw Farms web site. No merch or anything. You guys are missing out on… well, OK. Probably only one sale. What is shipping to Oregon?

If you say so

It says right on the package that it’s “cool” so it must be, right? Or is it a command. Cool dessert (or risk getting salmonella.) In any case, the packaging makes it look like some sort of nutritional product for senior citizens or babies. – Thanks to John Aguilar for the photo.

Goldfish lift off

I’m pretty sure that’s a bottle cap skateboard and a domino launch ramp. Not to be confused with parakeets on fingerboards in a bathroom sink, at which point I bring up vacuum cleaner sucks up budgie. – Thanks to Seth Levy for the tip.

Frigo String Cheese Man is radical

Frigo string cheese man (does he have a name?) loves skateboarding. Head on over to the Frigo Cheeseheads web siteto watch him get radical and play a bad skateboarding game. I think they might have used a skateboard on packaging at one time as well. I know I have a used string cheese wrapper with a skateboard on it somewhere in my boxes of crap (I mean important socio-historical artifacts) in the basement. – Thanks to Mark Pendergrass for the tip
