Burberry from 2002
A licensed Burberry skateboard featured in the January/February 2002 issue of FHM magazine. So yeah… $450, which makes a lot of sense. Heat transfers were expensive at the turn of the millennium.
Skater Boi Gives Pause
Pause magazine wants to redefine men’s fashion: The skater boy is the contemporaries new man and fashion wants him for their own.AW or SS it doesn’t matter….THIS IS THE FUTURE. This guy so surreal looking I can’t even laugh at this. A one point the video is like Charlie Sexton in a Devo video. Sometimes he looks like a computer animation. The model is one angular mofo. The video runs from skateboarding to motocross to a quasi bullfighter look. I keep expecting Ali G or Bruno to pop up. And the title, so hopelessly out of touch/fashion. That was popular in 2002! I don’t know why, but this whole thing fascinates me. It makes me want to stand in the corner of a skatepark and do the fake make out thing with my hands around my back. Yes, I know there are no corners in a skatepark. “Bonus” Avril Lavign video after the fashion disaster. [Source: Caught in the Crossfire]
Quilted leather skateboards
Err…. uh. Casely Hayford and H by Harris. Somewhere this makes sense to somebody. Wasn’t that guy in Fun Boy 3? [Source: Trendland]
Irina Shayk and Adam Senn cavort with skateboards
Ah.. so that’s what cavorting means. You’ll know too if you watch this old (2012) promo video for Suiteblanco with Irina Shayk and Adam Senn. Those guys are models, don’tcha know? Yes, it’s Friday T&A with a little beefcake too. Photos mostly from Fashion Rogue, but they were originally on Skategirlinternational.com. I think they changed their mind and decided that these weren’t the sort of photos that promoted women in action sports after all.
Spanish Bombshells
Skater Girls photographed by Claire Garcia Rosso, whose web site appears to be down, but her Deviant Art profile isn’t. She’s from Zaragoz, Spain, so any chance to sneak in a Clash reference, I’m going to take it. These photos date back to February of 2012, and it’s unclear if they have been published in print or not. Check out the highly functional skate footwear. Must be from the line of new high heels by DC Shoes.
Another Jason Lee
From the portfolio of Jason Lee Parry, some from Elle Girl, Japan edition. Nice vintage Jinx shirt.
Nyjah Huston for GQ
Here’s a short video with some behinds the scenes action on a Nyjah Huston photoshoot for GQ Magazine. I haven’t actually seen a copy of the magazine in some time, but if the web site is any indication, it looks like it’s turning into People magazine, not very sophisticated. If you watch the video on Youtube you will literally get bombarded with overlays asking you to subscribe, like and share videos with your friends, as if they are targeting an early teen audience. It’s totally at odds with their public image, and a little bit like the old SNL Newsforce skit. I can’t show you that skit, you’ll need a Hulu Plus account, but you can watch the Nyjah Huston video without popups after the jump. He looks really comfortable, like he could have a career fallback option in fashion. – Thanks to Sarib Khalsa for the tip.
Jeremy Scott settles with NHS/Phillips
Jeremy Scott and NHS reached a settlement over his pretty blatant copyright infringement on Santa Cruz skateboard graphics and other illustrations by Jim/Jimbo Phillips. Details are slim, as there was some sort of non disclosure agreement, but none of the fashions that Scott “designed” will be produced, and and the samples have been destroyed. Scott issues a lame, sideways apology as well. High Snobiety has additional comments from Bob Denike not found in the press release. – Thanks to Maple XO for the tip.
Elle Hungary
This is a model named Kate Kondas, who I guess is a thing. She was photographed for the August 2013 issue of Elle Magazine Hungary in a partially finished, partially ghetto looking skatepark somewhere. I’ve never seen a concrete park with asphalt on the top deck. The photographer (and possible anime villain) is named Zoltan Tombor. [Source: Fashion Gone Rogue] – Thanks to the spawn of MC for the tip.
Lizzie Armanto in Seventeen
Lizzie Armanto has a small piece in Seventeen magazine. With excerpts like this, it’s no wonder Lizzie has neglected to update the “coverage” section of her web site. In many ways, 20-year-old Lizzie is totally typical—she takes silly selfies with her BFFs, loves sleeping in, and munches on donuts after practice… It’s not the type of hard hitting journalism I’d expect from the first (1944) American magazine published for teens. I can’t tell if this is an online only appearance or if she’s in a print edition too. I must have let my subscription lapse. – Thanks to S&A contibutor and avid Seventeen reader Seth Levy for the tip.
