Me and My RC

I’ve seen skateboards with logos for all kinds of drinks, including Pepsi, Coke, Mountain Dew and Sobe , but this is the first time I’ve seen an RC Cola skateboard. This particular one made by Super Surfer. They actually molded “Me and My RC” onto the top deck. The Super Surfer imprints on the bottom and trucks are cool as well. I can’t tell if those are plastic trucks or not. The baseplate is metal, but the trucks look like they might be plastic, although I don’t remember plastic trucks showing up until the 90’s. (UPDATE: They are indeed metal trucks.) Maybe this artifact isn’t as old as the seller claims. But then again when was the last time anyone heard the slogan “Me and My RC,” or Royal Crown Cola, come to think of it. UPDATE: Thanks to Daymond Dodge for pictures of his own RC Cola board and KC for the RC Cola TV commercial.

My Friend Jenny

My friend JeNny, [sic] a skateboarding “hip hop girl” circa 1999 from South Korea. Maybe it took a little longer for 90’s baggy jeans to make it to Korea. It’s only $19.99, but I don’t know about shipping it. The skateboard on the front of the box looks like a clown shoe. – Thanks to Matthijs for the tip.

Oi! Jacko!

I have no idea who Oi! Jacko Gym was, but near as I can tell by this picture, he must have been some sort of middle aged, weight lifting Sting impersonator from Australia. He’s not content to just ride a skateboard, he’s got to lift weights at the same time. The box commands you to “Do your push-ups with Jacko.” Can I just skip them instead? Also, I’m not so sure about the “Make & Do” booklet. It sounds like some sort of toddler potty training record. It looks like he may have been the Australian mascot for Energizer.

Water decals from Socal Speed Shop

Some examples of water-release decals from the 60’s during the crossover of the hot-rod skateboarding fads. For sale now by Socal Speed Shop. I threw the weird surfer dude in there to make the cover image 4 panels. Something about those old head culture illustrators, they loved drawing normal guys whose eyes were bugging out in somewhat normal situations.
