New take on oldest joke in the book
I’d bet that practically the same day the name “sweeper” was coined, someone cracked the joke while cleaning off a ramp somewhere. You know, the one where you are sweeping out the flat or something and someone says “Hey, nice sweeper you just pulled!” I swear I thought I made that joke in with a picture post, but I can’t find it. Greg Baller of Freezine fame sent in some pictures of a board he made for a fundraiser. This is one of the all time great artsy fartsy concept boards.
GVK#35: The Kid (Trailer)
Watch out Hollywood here comes the”Docudramedy” “THE KID” (The Joe Carson story). I may need some extras so send your credentials/credits and head shots in. This is your chance to show the world what you can do. We’re trying out Vimeo now on The Kid trailer and Howard’s May Day Skate Party. If it works well we’ll go back and upload previous GVK’s. Cut! Grover…
The Hardest Part of Rollerblading
Sure, it’s an old joke and an easy target, but The Hardest Part of Rollerblading from MTV’s The Human Giant is well executed and without malice. Aziz Ansari’s performance makes the clip. Give that man some sort of award. I thought he looked familiar, he also appeared in an epsiode of Flight of the Conchords, which is the funniest show on TV right now, with the possible exception of The Venture Brothers.
Saturday Starrs #6: Skateboarders From Hell
This edition of Saturday Starrs features Skateboarders from Hell which is a spoof of one of those old biker exploitation movies, although stylistically this is half 1950’s and half early 70’s. I can’t actually tell when this was made. The fashion on some the extras could be late 70’s or early 80’s. It looks like it was shot on 8mm film, but the titles look like really clean digital work. Maybe they were added years later, or maybe it was shot on old stock. I feel like I should know who some of the “actors” are. It’s kind of hard to tell via YouTube, and it’s further complicated by the presence of an advert for Tail Devils tacked on the end. Hopefully Scott Starr will shed some light on Skateboarders from Hell.
Conahan: Who needs him? (Part 2)
F-Word! This took me even longer to do. I was even looking at some of his body positions in previous comics instead of scribbling from scratch. And, yes, I copied and pasted his head on the voodoo doll directly from another comic. And no, don’t worry. I promise I am not going to make this a regular feature. Sure is fun though.
Friday T&A on S&A: Skateboard Thong
Ladies, get your skateboard thong from the London France Underpants Company, who have been “Sewing panties for the Las Vegas Showgirls for YEARS! And…Now sewing panties for The Bunnies at The World’s Only Playboy Club!” This sort of thing would be a huge hit at Union Jack’s. And no, I don’t have a picture of anyone modeling them. You make think these are ridiculous, but rumor has it that other skate thongs exist.
Sneakers & Lace
Skateboardin’ USA was released in 1978 by a “band” called Sneakers & Lace. My guess is that it was just some producer’s project designed to cash in on a fad. Instead of just doing a single, they really ran with it. Where are the skateboard novelty songs of today? Oh yeah, that’s right. You can find three Sneakers & Lace skateboard tracks on the excellent compilation This Is Skateboard Music, or you can listen to Sidewalk Convoy and Skate Talk, (both non compilation tracks) after the jump. look at the cover and think 1978… It’s going to be excellent!
Conahan: Who needs him?
See, I can do this just as well, if not better. Mark who? But seriously folks… It’s been a long run, and I’m sad to see the H.O.M.O.S. go. This stupid comic took me half a day to make.
The truth about Gabriel Park
I never know what sort of reactions a post will get. Sometimes I can be spot on with a prediction, and other times when I hesitate to make a particular post, the comments flood in when it goes live. I made a quick public service announcement on Friday about the opening of Gabriel Park skate park, and it touched a nerve. Shortly thereafter I received a comic from a source that wishes to remain anonymous. All things considered, it’s pretty damned funny, so I’m posting it.
True Story
This is a true story. We’re potty training our oldest kid who is not yet three. When we know we can watch him, we let him wear regular underpants – well, at least if you can call tighty whiteys covered in cartoon characters “regular.” After a particularly successful day full of positive reenforcement, we went for a ride in the van. From the back seat we hear my son telling me ” I have pee pee.” We tell him it’s ok to go right now because he’s wearing a diaper. He’s having a little trouble grasping the situation, so we talk about it. After a short break he asks “Where is my pee pee?” to which we reply without thinking it through “It’s in your weiner.” Yes, that’s what we’re calling it. Now don’t ask me what kind of drugs my son was on, but these were his next words. “My pee pee is in my wiener? Is it having fun? Is my wiener riding a skateboard?” I kid you not. Anyway, here’s the image I came up with to illustrate this post. From the Hot Diggity Dog Collection. Dachshund figurine titled “Real Weenie.” This wiener dog wears his cool…
