I pitty the pool.
Photobucket user sk8grl48 has this comic up on her account. Be careful following that link because it contains a lot of NSFW material. Who tipped us off? Why Concrete Wave’s own Michael Brooke, but he doesn’t know the creator.
The skatepark design debate has ended!
The great debate can finally be laid to rest. Are you sick of hearing “Too many old dudes making the decisions.” or “Too many bowls.” or “Not enough vert!” or “Stop being a spoiled baby and skate what you have!” ? (How do you punctuate that sentence anyway?) Well then, your prayers have been answered. We went directly to the source, the youth of today. Because children are our future, we consulted this birthday card to come up with the perfect skatepark design. (Thanks to Troy Sliter)
Captain Corporate America
Figures, he’s on roller blades. I was following a link from a comment on officer hard-ass beating the rap. The link was from a site called Skate Theory that features a random picture popping up on the front page. On my first visit I happened to catch the pic above. It’s from 2001 when a friend of mine and former roommate dressed up as Captain Corporate America and crashed a Fourth of July parade in Urbana Illinois. I know the skateboarding link is tenuous at best, but the same guy also illustrated this skateboard company logo for me. You can read the full scoop on Captain Corporate America at Media Geek.
Like pointing a video camera at a mirror.
So this post contains a YouTube video made from television broadcasts showing YouTube videos. Now if we could just get a video of this post broadcast on TV and re-recorded and posted on YouTube… The first bit is an Apple iPhone commercial and the second is Steven Colbert on The Colbert Report, both showcasing the skateboarding bulldog. Watch the vid after the jump.
Tony Parakeet, professional skateboarder.
Skateboarding dogs, monkeys and pigs are for the birds. Haw haw! His name is Tony Parakeet. Get it? Get it? Yuck yuck. This small bird does little more than perch on a fingerboard while the owner, dare I say trainer moves the board into position to roll down inclines or rail slide (extreme cave-man style) down a railing. they even set up a few ramps and ledges so the bird naturally maneuvers into a tail slide through sheer gravity. Low impact fun. Hey vid-heads, is this a section from a larger video? Watch it after the jump on embedded LiveVideo. Speaking of embedded video, does anyone else find the new YouTube interface intrusive and annoying? Seems like it kooks up web browser performance too.
Battle of the Super Grovers
Sometimes the fruits of a good session last long after the the actual session is done. Our own Steve Grover, of Grover’s Video Korner fame is now a comic book hero on Earth Patrol Media. See why he’s considering changing his name to L.L. Cool Grover.
Skateboarders fall down, go boom
What do you call that trick where you are pushing off on your skateboard and your back leg catches the rear wheel on your skateboard? Oh yeah, it’s called funny! One guy made a documentary about it. What a happy coincidence. Just yesterday I was trying to come up with an excuse to post an old video of I have of House of Neil doing the same thing. The first vid is called “Crash, Burn & Replay: A Segway Documentary” It’s pretty good, even though it flirts heavily with overkill. The second one is a short but sweet star vehicle for Neil titled “The Legends of Stenchtown,” after the Stench Ditch, a seminal, hardcore, locals only, dare I say Extreme™ skate spot in Evanston Illinois, and home to the Stenchtown crew who revolutionized skateboard slams with style.
Who is/was Simon Woodstock?
I can’t find much about Simon Woodstock on the web. There are a couple of reviews of his religious tract disguised as a zine, but other than that, just this video clip, Skim the Fat doesn’t have a single listing of him, even if IMDB lists him as appearing in Boob. STF lists 154 skaters in that video, but no Simon Woodstock. It’s like he’s been blacklisted. Simon was in the limelight at a time when I wasn’t following the industry rags, not that I am now, but through the Interweb™ I sometimes find out about things whether I want to or not. I remember reading about some legendary shenanigans and talented skating in the past tense. What I get from this video is a heavy CKY vibe. Just as some people can’t stand Bam, there are lot of Woodstock bashers out there. You’d have to be blind to say he had no talent. Watch him ride both a skimboard and snowboard set up as skateboards while wearing appropriate attire and shredding as effortlessly as if he was riding a short board. Then there’s the clown suit. Funny stuff, but I can imagine it wears thin after a while. So…
Help save the youth of America.
Oops. Too late. Our civilization is doomed if these are our future leaders. The video is called “mitch hittin himself wid a skateboard” [sic] and is described as “mitch tryin 2 be like jonny knoxville off jackass.” Oh wobble94, I don’t know where to start. Let’s hang out together.
