Watch your food intake today
I can’t remember what I made this Search for Animal Double Chin paradoy for. The file creation date says January of 2005. Might have been from when I spent more time trolling Sleestak and Concrete Disciples than I did writing at Skate and Annoy. Happy Thanksgiving, and don’t eat too much or you’ll end up like this guy. Apologies to our international readers… I guess most of you can still be thankful that we haven’t invaded you yet and our Presidential elections are getting nearer. USA! USA! USA!
A dork session by any other name…
This “Shit Skate Gang” video is funny and has high production values, unlike some people. Actually, it reminds me of the Claus Grabke spoof. The theory is skateboarding has reached its peak. To stand out at your local skatepark you need to carve in a whole new direction. Join Gaylord Gaylord, Mudstain Thompson, and Lancelot Jenkins in the next biggest revolution in skateboarding since the Dogtown boys. Check it out. Thanks to Joesf for the tip.
Halloween hijinks: Burnside
So I went to Burnside on Halloween dressed as Space Ghost where I skated poorly for a while before settling down to one location to take a few pictures. The session had just heated up when I had to split to go be Halloween dad with my kid. While there was a lot of good action there, I missed most of it and I made it a point to only shoot people in costume. Enjoy.
Halloween Highjinks: Spiderman
It’s Halloween. It’s Halloween. It’s Hall-O-ween. Here’s some footage of Spiderman skating in what looks like it may be a Vans park. The YouTuber is very mum on the details but it’s slick enough to make me believe I’ve just exposed my ignorance by not knowing what video this was taken from. If I didn’t know better (aside from the difference in skating style, and his bag-o-tricks) I’d say this was the Doctor’s alter ego for sure. Watch it after the jump.
Getting ready…
Halloween is almost upon us. Be on the lookout for depraved and crazed maniacs at local skate spots near you. This one was sent in by Mike Furst of Old Man Army.
Who’s the big man now, huh Steve Schneer?
UPDATE: In the wake of the passing of Steve Schneer some 7 years after this post was written, I feel it’s important to point out the title of this post is a reference to his famous Ho Ho plants and how these magnet embedded skateboards would make it so much easier for kids to do this trick. There’s no disrespect intended towards Steve, and in fact in meeting him a few times in my capacity as editor at S&A he was always very friendly and never mentioned it. My kid plays with these little toy figures that have magnets in their feet that stick to small skateboards. They are called Tech Deck Dudes and there are something like 60 of them now. They are fun to play with for both of us, although I can’t figure out why some of the guys have weapons too. They obviously call to mind the old Sky Hooks, which you can still actually buy from no less than three (Count ’em. 1, 2, 3.) manufacturers. Apparently there’s no current official trademark holder. But Sky Hooks are so 70’s, and magnets make for a more up to date dork session. Besides, you could just change shoes if…
Balloon Bowl
Yeah, this is old, but still good. I can’t believe this went down at D.O.S. and we didn’t know about it. Well actually, I can. From the D.O.S. website: This went down a long time ago, but who knows how many people actually saw it. Dave England and some buddies made this for a website and it got passed around the interweb for a minute. Beach was the perfect dude to try and ride something like this. The first time they did it, they blew all the balloons up with their mouths. 10 hours and they ended up with a quarter of the balloons shown. Round 2 they got an air compressor. The best thing (aside from a bowl full of balloons) is all the popping noises. I imagine the longer they rode the sketchier it got. Truly unique and fun stuff. Check out the vid after the jump.
Old school, New school, Home school
Aside from teaching you how to apply grip tape or remove your skateboard trucks, About.com has a whole section on home schooling. One of the units they offer has a skateboarding theme. There are word searches, crossword puzzles and multiple choice questions all based on the same 20 words. It’s a bit monotonous, but that’s your word of the day kids! Also, they make you jump through extra hoops to actually get to the pages where you can see them larger, so I’ve provided direct links, and of course the usual assorted flippant remarks. Children are our future, the little bastards.
Summer is over
We’ve had a few risque posts here lately, so I thought I’d be open handed and fair by putting up something for the ladies… This exotic dance team will be appearing at the Scab and Flab nightly for your enjoyment. Try the chicken fried steak and don’t forget to tip your waitress. So drink it in, and don’t thank me all at once. And, yes, summer is over.
