Frank is on a Roll
Frank is a private label brand for Canadian Tire, an automotive company (?) that somehow has a long history of retail stores as well. I mean sure, Panasonic made stereos and bicycles so…. Tires, paper towels and potato chips! The Frank brand has amusing packaging, with the character Frank essentially being the anthropomorphized version of whatever they are trying to sell. Hence, Hank is on a roll, Hank Brings Home the Bacon, Hank turns spuds into studs. What’s the translation for “ne se roule pas les pouces?” Don’t roll thumbs? – Thanks to Darren Haugen for the pic.
Happy Indigenous Peoples’ Day
Disorder has an interview with Joe Buffalo a skateboarder and actor from Maskwacis, Alberta and the Samson Cree Nation. The interview is from April of this year, and his pro model for Colonialism Skateboards has already sold out. You should also check out this more recent CBC radio interview with Joe. – Thanks to Heidi Randall for the tip.
Transition Protest Graffiti
On the one hand, these are some valid points. On the other hand, the person who did this deserves nothing. [Source: New Westminster Record ]

Here in hockeyland
Kevin sent in an update on the DIY sanctioned park in his home town of Notre Dame de L’ile Perrot (Quebec, Canada) that he spearheads. I badgered the city for some $ for concrete, and they supplied the materials for the new corner we are going to do. I guess they value my volunteering for all the work and free sk8 lesson to the kids on Thursday’s. Any way we built some forms for some trannys, we are doing a corner and hips. We had a little rain but not much. We floated it good and then once it was all dry the rain came just in time.I am so impressed with this kid Alexis who is 7 and just kills it on tight tranny, he loves our pool and loves to skate. He was so down on floating the crete it was impressive, as is his older brother Nic, and dad Renaud. We don’t see many girls in skateboarding which is unfortunate, but Marianne came out to show she wants more crete and helped float the mud. A community that skates together stays together. Here in hockeyland, they just don’t get, but they are realizing that there is much more…
No-va Scotia
Yes, intentionally misspelled. Nova Scotia has draconian skateboard helmet laws affecting riders of all ages. Fines start at $140 and count as traffic violations that auto insurance companies can, and have used to drop coverage for people. Go sign a petition. [Source: Slap] – Thanks to Josh Burt for the tip

Bellingham, WA skater Ted Wetzel (seen here on S&A) visited Vancouver B.C. for a session and had his dogs stolen from the back of his 2001 Ford Ranger. B.C. Readers help him out if you can. Both dogs require daily dosages of meds. UPDATE: Dogs have been located.
SOTW 8-9-10: Bonsor Nosepicker
This week’s shot of the week comes from repeat offender Dylan Davies. Here’s a shot of his friend Jeremie at Bonsor skatepark in Vancouver B.C.. I don’t know if that’s lens flare or a light leak in the lower left hand corner, but it looks great. Check out the Shot of the Week

From Control Manufacturing in Canada: St-Nicolas, Qc January 18th 2010 –In an attempt to come to the aid of the people who are suffering in Haiti in the aftermath of a violent earthquake that brought death and destruction to the country last week we have decided to release a special edition skateboard. 100% of the proceeds from the sale of these boards will go to the people of Haiti via the Canadian Red Cross – Quebec division, c/o Fabienne Laisné, 6, Place du Commerce, Verdun (Quebec) H3E 1P4. This board will go on sale across Canada within the next 2 weeks. This board is made out of 100% hardrock Canadian maple at the Control Manufacture in St-Nicolas Qc Canada. The project however is from our sales team. We will use all the contacts we have built over the last 15 years to reach out to all shops, brands and skaters accross Europe, Canada, USA and South America that currently buy boards from us. Not a penny will be kept of the proceeds, everything we make is going to Haiti. When I saw the desperation in Haiti I didn’t know what to do to help… finally I decided to help the…
