Stunt Wood Insanity
In today’s episode of WTF is going in skateboarding, I’m just doing my part to save the industry and get more skateparks built by trying to make sure the Red Bull company get’s their maximum ROI on this world record drop-in by Sandro Dias. Is this skateboarding? Technically. Is this an insane human achievement? Yes. Is this an insane waste of money? Yes. We’ve all driven buy a building with a transition and thought “I bet you could skate that!” whether or not it was practical. Who was the old record holder? I’m guessing Danny Way, but do I care enough to confirm it. No. They probably mention it in the video.
My Beautiful Balloon
A miniramp suspended by a hot air balloon, the brainchild of Brazilian skateboarder Vanderley Arame, as seen in Cemporcento Skate magazine. Exclusive video after the jump. – Thanks to Giancarlo at Skate Cultura for the tip.
Having a blast at the X Games in Brazil
Sorry about the lack of posts this week, my plane got delayed and TAM Linhas Aéreas lost my luggage. It took a while to get things sorted out, but I’m happy now, and tripping out cause I’ve never been in the southern hemisphere before. The toilets flush backwards! What???? Crazy! Anyway, I finally got the go ahead to post a couple of pics I took of Jake Brown. Holy cow, he landed the world’s first backside 720 Ollie over the gap in during the Big Air contest…
SB rideable advertising
MC found this Nike SB outdoor advert that was produced in Brazil circa 2006, so don’t go looking for these here and now. There’s not much information from the source because you have to (pay) subscribe to actually read the content. It’s called Mub Skateboard, from a firm called F/Nazca Saatchi & Saatchi. It looks like an appendage they add to existing structures to make them skate able, like a skate-prosthesis. I don’t remember I we talked about this earlier or not, but Nike had plans to tear down the artificial barrier they erected between SB and the rest of the company, and looks like they’ve been absorbed at last, the old url redirects to the corporate site. Very sterile. [Source: Advertolog]
Skull
At the end old Space Ghost Coast to Coast episode they always had a split second production company tag for Williams Street that consisted of some people yelling “skull” with the reverb turned up and no explanation whatsoever. Beto Janz makes these skulls out of old skateboards, and they look pretty damned cool. It’s a project for Ultraseries Skate in Brazil. Re:Board from Brazil, but in L.A.
Re: Board is an exhibit of Brazilian skate art that will be opening in L.A. at the Exhibit A gallery on March 27th. Strange thing is, there’s nothing about it on the gallery web site. Friend of the site Mr Coulter is headed down fro the event due to his affiliation with Uncommon, the iPhone case company with a skateboarding fetish. I dunno. Take some pictures or something, would ya?

SOTW 3-8-10: Luciano Fleck Peixoto
This week’s shot of the week comes all the way from Brazil. Luciano Fleck Peixoto taken by Aalexandre Vianna, and previously published in the Brazilian magazine Cemporcento SKATE back in 2008. That snake run is a DIY project that dates back to 1977. Check out the shot of the week.
What the Fofao?
Ten bucks delivered. Bizarro skateboard album covers are the new vintage skateboard collectable… because I say so. This thing is disturbing. Fofao is a popular (?) children’s television character, or not, I’m not sure. He’s freakish though. Large jowled pig face boy anyone? I keep staring at the cover of this thing, trying to figure out if it’s a child in the suit or a man with an oversized skateboard. Seriously, check it out.
