8-Bit Zombie – Thrashor, Alf, and Gizmo
When I published that old No Fit State post one of the characters caught my eye. I didn’t recognize Thrashor, and wasn’t sure if he was an actual thing or just one off made up for the pin, but it turns out it was some cross licensing from an outfit called 8-bit Zombie that makes mostly t-shirts and stickers, but also made a Thrashor action figure that looks pretty rad. More rad than their Rad Alf t-shirt and the Gremlins shirt that features Gizmo on a skateboard. They make some Screaming Hand variants too.
Hey kids, always recycle… to the extreme!
The same folks behind the Bones Brigade series of Reaction figures are taking preorders for a Poochie figure, the infamous character on the Simpsons. It’s pretty cool if you know the history of the the character. In fact it’s right up Skate and Annoy’s alley, except for that pesky $55 price tag. How is it possible that we never covered the Bones Brigade figures here? They were released during a dark period in Skate and Annoy history. These images are renders. The figures have not been produced yet.
Freeing Japanime Figures
Hard drive cleaning time: Freeing makes PVC anime figures and accessories, mostly scantily clad stuff in the vein of your typical Hook-Ups graphic. Even when they aren’t scantily clad, they still look like Sorayama robots. These must sell like gangbusters. I mean, who wouldn’t want a highly posable figure of a sensuous, big breasted mannequin riding a skateboard or a scooter? The skateboards all come with snowboard bindings, which is unfortunate. I’m not sure what the purpose of these is. It’s possible they are the plastic anime-centric equivalent of those small wooden manikins used for figure drawing.
Action Man Longboarder
Action Man is the UK version of GI Joe, and I’m not talking about the schmaltzy 80’s version, I’m talking Kung-Fu grip and Life-Like Hair ™. I checked out a blind link tip that turned out to be the Action Man Longboard Rider. Not being able to read the content, I was mildly surprised that Vans had licensed their logos for a longboard figure, since it didn’t seem genre appropriate, but that was before I saw the making of photos. Turns out it’s not a real kit, but the equivalent of fan fiction, painstakingly crafted. Some of the photos are interesting, and some are intentionally funny. Whoever runs Madelman Blog Show is obsessed with action figures as much as some people are obsessed with obscure skateboarding references. – Thanks to Boy Ipoh for the tip.
Earth Ace is back
Earth Ace, your favorite skateboarding astronaut has some footy. Unfortunately it’s the recurring theme of whiny kids becoming heroes. Unlikeable characters you haven’t seen since the most vertical primate. Seriously, this is one annoying protagonist. I know this is meant for kids, but it’s really kind of funny that on the one hand, he can’t win a skateboard race with a bully, but on the other hand he’s an astronaut charged with saving the solar system. It starts with a nice Thrashin’ style downhill race.
