Troutdale Needs a Skatepark

Tyler over at Calsk8.com wants greater Portland area skaters to be aware that the City of Troutdale has a significant chunk of funds available from a decade old parks bond measure that could be applied to a skatepark. He’s working with a committee (and Evergreen) to propose a 30,000 sq ft. plot in Columbia Park behind Reynolds High School. The best way to help this become a reality is to attend a Parks Advisory Committee meetings held the second Wednesday every month at the Public Works building in Troutdale (342 SW 4th St.) or to write in to the Mayor and City Council (citycouncil@troutdaleoregon.gov) as well as Tim Seery, the superintendent of the Parks Advisory Committee.

The Future of TV from 5 Months ago

One product featured in the Apple Event of September, 2015 was a new release of Apple TV. The live presentation had a sprinkling of skateboarding images, and the Music and Photos section of the web site currently features a healthy dose of skateboarding. I don’t have an Apple TV, but I’ve always been curious about it. Mr Cook, you know where to send the review hardware. Just look at that tag.

Trampskate: Still Going

Way back in 2010 my post about the Trampskate was met with with universal derision. Since then, Facebook has sucked away all my web traffic and Trampskate is still in business. So the jokes on me! – Thanks to Adlan Farazi for the tip via (duh, duh duh…) FACEBOOK

Movi Star

I was checking out the Movi camera, which a smart little system that uses a single 4k camera to capture video, combined with an app that lets you zoom and pan through the 4k image in real time, while saving or streaming the final footage. The end result lets you simulate multiple camera angles for live events with only one physical camera. I got to thinking that it would be fun to use at a skateboarding event, but probably not actually very useful due to the unique demands of shooting compelling skateboarding footage. Just as I was writing it off as interesting but not practical for a skateboarding application, I found this image on their web site.

Taco Cabana

Rich Burton’s significant other acquired this Taco Cabana cup in Texas way back in 1995, some 10 years before before getting together with Rich, and another 10 before Rich noticed it and sent a picture to me. If the hippies had their way, this invaluable piece of cultural history would have bio-degraded and been lost for all eternity. Now it’s up on the Interwebs, where it will last for all eternity, or until I let the domain name lapse, or the zombie apocalypse, or Sky Net becomes self aware. Enjoy this jalapeño pepper frontside 5-0 grind while you can.

Madrid Reissues

Madrid Skateboards has some new and some not-so new limited release reissues out. According to the distributing arm of Madrid,  these 40th anniversary edition decks will only be produced this year, yet the Explosion model and Beau Brown model have already been available for some time. Not mentioned in the release is their most infamous model, the X-Team Rider, which has also been available for a while. Although simple, I’ve always liked the explosion model, even before I knew it was Bernie Tostenson behind the squeegee and Rubylith. Some of these aren’t up on either website yet, so check them out after the jump.
