Bodyslam 6.1 minizine

Bodyslam 6.1

In the eighties I published a ‘zine called Bodyslam. I always meant to do another issue and got started a few times but for various reasons it never happened. Well Kilwag inspired me to do a micro version. a single 8.5 x 11″ sheet, two-sided, folded and trimmed down and stapled down to a 16 page micro-zine. This one features my miniaturized skatepark photos. Download Bodyslam 6.1, print it out and assemble it yourself. We have More detailed assembly instructions here I also printed a few. I’ll carry them with me and leave a few at the local shops.

Night falls on Tigard

Shortest skatepark opening ever.

Rich from EPM notes: Tigard’s grand opening is at 4:30 on Nov. 8th. Well, the sign says the park is open from sunrise to sunset. We go to daylight savings time on Sunday, Nov. 4th making sunset at approx. 4:45 pm on Nov. 8th. That’s Joesf Heffner working on airing over the dinosaur with nightfall riding his ass in the shot above. It’s a bail though, but this was as good excuse as any to post it. You can see the Photoshop-free version after the jump.

Intercooler video - sausage half pipe

Most half pipes are a sausage fest

Intercooler is either a heat exchange device used on turbocharged internal combustion engines to improve their volumetric efficiency, or an Australian band. Take your pick. This music video (or is it a commercial for Element?) for Intercooler’s You’re Not Gonna Hurt Us Again features two people I’ve never heard of: Australian pro skateboarder Corbin Harris and director Michael Ebner. That’s OK, I don’t live in Australia, but I’m making up for it with Australia day on SnA. The production company that made this video is also shooting “Bondi 3000: The Making Of.” which covers “the schizoid, snail-paced production of a futuristic English epic, about how in the year 3000 the British will reclaim Bondi from Australia.” It must be skatepark envy. And yes, Lorem Ipsum is my favorite perfume. What am I talking about? Watch the video, a heartbreaking story of a hot chick who dumps her boyfriend because he won’t stop skating a miniature mashed potato half pipe with his sausage. I kid you not. (Insert fingerboard joke here.)

Bondi Bowl snakeboard with bindings

Wacky Australian two fer.

Oh man, he’s killing it! Oh wait… Just in case snakeboards aren’t wacky enough for you, you can always add snowboarding bindings. The most interesting thing about this video is the fact that it was shot with an adapter that lets you stick 35mm lenses on a regular old camcorder, for all kinds of artsy-fartsy depth of field effects. Oh yeah, I’ts shot at Australia’s Bondi Beach. Look for the guy on the regular old fashioned skateboard falling down. What a sucker, huh? Thanks to John Aguilar for the tip.

Indy Grab

We came. We whined. We conquered… Sort of.

Steve Howell actually thanked us for correcting him, but I suspect he’s a lot more polite than we are. He’s updated the skateboard dictionary entry for the term “Indy” on About.com. The Indy can be a sticky trick to name – a lot of skaters use the term Indy for any grab where the back hand is holding the board between the toes, but technically, this is only true in snowboarding. In skateboarding, traditionally the term Indy refers to the same grab, but it implies it is backside. No matter what snowboarders may call it, the move was invented skateboarding, and has a specific definition. Technically, it’s a backside air, trailing hand grab between your legs. Frontside and backside are the same on both boards. It shouldn’t matter what you are riding. Then again, rollerbladers have all kinds of goofy names for their moves too. OK. It’s not perfect but we’ll take it. We’re making a difference here at Skate and Annoy.
