Skate and Annoy: Daily
European carryall
Sure, skateboarding is a largely homophobic subculture, but we’ve come a long way baby, when someone can release a man purse skate bag. Dylan Rieder Gear From Gravis. Video of Reider riding after the jump. [Source: The Skateboard Mag] – Thanks to Flaming Egbert for the tip.
Credible sources
An editorial writer by the name Mary Kitch contacted me about Tom Miller’s appointment. She said to call her but neglected to actually leave a phone number. I didn’t get back to her in time obviously, because they quoted some S&A comments in editorial piece that basically complains about the fact that Miller was appointed to the position without casting a net for other candidates. I can see their point, actually, but I also don’t know how past candidates were hired. The reason for quoting S&A? To point out that the cycling and skateboarding community has reacted favorably to the appointment. You can read the piece on OregonLive.com. – Thanks to Paul Fujita for the scan.
BB APB PSA
Keep your eyes peeled on eBay for this one. This G & S Billy Ruff Fiberlite deck with Z Roller trucks and Vision Blurrs was stolen from the Bones Brigade Documentary set last week. The skateboard belongs to Todd Huber of Skatelab. If you have any information in regards to it please contact us. promo@skateone.com or Skatelab 805-522-2221. That stinks, but I guess the Bones Brigade documentary is on. I think I knew that already. There’s a still from what looks like a set after the jump, although the fact that there is a set seems a little odd. Maybe they are doing a talk show.
Big in Shanghai
Here’s a proposed hotel in Shanghai by a Danish architectures firm called Big. The scale is way off, those transitions could be measured in blocks instead of feet. Still, it would be ridable. Very similar to the big gay retirement home. – Thanks to Josh Fisher for the tip.
Who saw it coming?
Remember internet skate sensations the Puehse Twins Apparently they are over skateboarding for time being, preferring to pursue tennis instead. Grover has an awesome story about doing the robot during high school doubles tournaments, and that’s as a competitor, not someone in the stands. Oooh, it’s painful to watch these kids wooden delivery. It’s hard to reconcile them with the kids in the movie trailer. UPDATE: I was about tho schedule this post but on previewing it I discovered both the videos had been removed. Here’s the gist. In video one the twins explain how they are leaving skateboarding to focus on tennis because they’ve been skating forever and it just isn’t as fun to them anymore. They go on to thank all of their big name sponsors and then crack some jokes. I guess they caught a lot of flack in their Youtube comments, scrolling through them the removed comments seemed to outnumber the ones still left by four to one. To combat that they released a second video acknowledging the haters and backtracked a little. The main points being that they never said they were quitting skateboarding forever, and reminded people that they said they might be back…
Sponsor Luv: Merde video time
Enoy the provocatively tiltled Landlocked Seamen (The Search for Lesbian Seagull) from Merde. Haven’t seen Brookings in a long time. Straight from the CEO: This was more of a vacation than an actual skate trip. At least in my mind. You see, my mother in law, Penny, has a great beach front condo in Southern Oregon. We stayed there, cooked every night on the beach, and drank beer. We got really lucky on weather too. This was early February in Oregon and we had almost 70 degree and clear conditions. Basically the best scenario posible. Thanks Penny!
GVK #65: MC’s 50th
Almost everyone we know likes Mark Conahan and would wish him a Happy Birthday, even if it is two weeks late. ALMOST everyone. Here’s some footage of a pre-rained out session at his own bowl dojo. It was one windy day gusting to 30mph, sticks and leaves were lethal objects. We braved the day and won the bowl.
