Skate and Annoy: Daily
Random press photo
Hey, it’s Pierre Luc Gagnon at the X games in Los Angeles back in June. He won. I guess you should go buy some Monster Energy drink. Tune in next month for this month’s Street League results.
Friday T&A on S&A: Candy Grip
From the promo shot above you might guess that Candy Grip is the name of an adult film star, but it’s the name of a color changing grip tape product trying to get funded through Kickstarter. It’s not temperature sensitive, but dependent on the angle of the light hitting it in relation to the viewer, like some of those funky paint jobs on cars. The effect is subtle, or at least their photos and videos don’t capture it too well. “Candy” is noticeably absent in the videos except as a poster frame, so you need to head on over to Flickr to see more of her. Speaking of the videos, I’m not sure what’s going on with the soundtrack, like an iPad commercial gone horribly wrong.
Bee Radical
Vodaphone bus stop advert with bees on a mini ramp was spotted while site seeing in the UK, by a Yank no less. UK readers, where’s the love? – Thanks to Adam Wallingford for the pics.
SOTW 7-9-12: Josh Dorsey
This weeks Shot of the Week is another one from Micah Breshears, this time it’s Josh Dorsey at the Albany, Oregon skatepark.
Board Rescue
Here’s a short promo for Board Rescue, an organization that we’ve featured here before. so here’s a refresher. Board Rescue, a 501(c)(3) non profit company has been in operation since 2008. Their mission is to provide skateboards and safety equipment to organizations that work with underprivileged and or at-risk youth throughout the United States. Board Rescue’s founder, Gary Holl, had the opportunity to work with two talented multimedia design students Paula Viidu and Niclas Facius on a short video that shows the positive impact Board Rescue has made to one of its many recipient organizations. “I hope that everyone gets a chance to see this short film because it tells our story. It validates that our efforts at Board Rescue play a huge part in the success of the organizations that we donate to. The parents, teachers and other academic support staff see the positive results. And of course the children and ultimately their communities benefit greatly. ” said Holl.
Stop Stair-ing
Before everyone get’s their panties in a bunch, this was purely a design exercise and not a product meant to be sold to the general public. It’s kind of a fascinating train wreck to watch. It looks like a successful design of a skateboard you can ride down stairs, at least in a less jarring fashion than you could anyway. However, I’m not sure how much of that is due to the Frankenstein truck modifications and how much is due to the flexibility and longer wheelbase of the board. PoChih Lai is the guy who designed and made it. Whatever your opinion is on this exercise, you have to give him credit for actually fabricating this contraptions instead of just presenting it as a bunch of CAD renders. In fact, he constructed several different iterations just to get to this point! Buy one? No, but I’d like to try it. [Source: Dezeen] – Thanks to Colin for the tip.
