Skate and Annoy: Daily
A Golden Egg
It’s a little bit of Gonz, a lot of Simon Woodstock, and a little bit of Sorcery 118. These frame grabs only scrape the surface of what Jesse James and Chris Atherton are up to in terms of weird little Frankenstein skateboards and general… I guess shenanigans is the word I’m looking for. Seriously. These are not the best frame grabs, but there were too many to choose from. Some people find this kind of thing annoying, but I defy you not to smile while you are watching this. It’s a Golden Egg After you watch it, check out a short interveiw and some behind the scenes action on Caught in the Crossfire. – Thanks to KC for the tip.
Skating Friends
It’s like the package says: “Skating Friends.” That’s Abby Cadabby on roller skates and Rosita on a skateboard.
If it ain’t a brake light, don’t…
You know, from earlier today… same joke. You might have missed this if you weren’t reading the comments of this post. Independent baseplate as motorcycle brake light fixture. Cool. As seen on Pipe Burn. – Thanks to Charles for the tip.
Sonic is not a skateboard
It’s been a while since we’ve seen a new “car-as-skateboard” commercial.” What did people do before the 90’s? That was like the wild west of TV commercials. No, this isn’t a closed circuit, and these are not professional stunt drivers. Yes, your car is a skateboard! Yes, go try this at home! [Source: Motor Trend]
If it ain’t fixed, don’t brake it
The Brake Board is about a year old, actually, and was to be made somewhere in the Seattle area. I can’t find a web site for it, so it may not have actually gone into production. It’s a Fred Flintstone simple idea. One that nobody is likely to want if they actually have a little skill or gumption. Still, I could see a bunch of Mom’s out there thinking it was a good idea for junior’s daily ride to school. I’m seeing more and more grade school kids skating to school on longboards these days, even in the rain, which would be “core” were it not for the fact that I also see kids in shorts and t-shirts in the rain too. You know, this board reminds me of something. – Thanks to Matthijs for the tip.
Dirt’s Living Room
Here’s a sneak peak of an Elias Parise project documenting DIY action in the Pacific Northwest. From the tone of this clip it seems to be more conversational instead of heavy handed and dramatic, so you can set your docu-phobia aside. Think Fruit of the Vine instead of Dogtown and Z-Boys.
Street Warrior
This month’s counterfeit is a Street Warrior with a top side that bears a strong resemblance to a Per Welinder, courtesy of a French auction site. The bottom side looks like a knock off of a sideways glance at a Nash board, or a 7-Up advert. – Thanks to David Maes for the tip.
Hardflip
I got a Christian vibe from this right away, before I got to… well cameo appearances by Christian Hosoi and Bennet Harada. What happens when your life takes a hard flip? Teenager Caleb Jones goes skateboarding. With no father in his life to guide him and his mother, Beth, working two jobs to make ends meet, Caleb believes nothing matters in life but becoming a sponsored skater to get him away from all his troubles. Now on his own, he sets out to find the father he never knew when he stumbles upon some old love letters. Out of hurt and anger, Caleb reluctantly contacts his father Jack, who happened to live the next town over from him his entire life. Calebs only real friend, a crazy, homeless, street preacher named Ralph, speaks nuggets of Truth through Gods Word, guiding Caleb along his journey. Through the tragedy of his mothers illness and the sudden appearance of the father he never knew, Caleb becomes the man his mother always prayed hed be. Caleb is a story of what can happen when we let…
