Know your NIMBY

Captain Greenaway from an article in The Bold italic titled Know Your NIMBYs, a guide to San Francisco’s Loudest Citizens. This potent NIMBY opposes anything that isn’t green. That may be as simple as a lack of compost bins and/or organic food for her children at school, or the more complex issue of impinging on 420 rights. They can often be found joining forces with The Transportationazi to do things such as not allow a highway to go through residential areas and instead be routed down Van Ness Avenue. They will also change shade slightly and take on the light of The Vegan Avenger and/or The Community Gardenist to make sure that nature wins above all else. [Source: Team Print Shop]

Mark Scott in 1859 Oregon

Dreamland founder Mark Scott has a new model on Lifeblood and a short feature in 1859 Oregon Magazine. As far as the editorial goes, it’s a bit of a throwback to the pre-enlightened era of skatepark journalism, notable only for (still) getting the slang wrong. I don’t know what “looking to go ham” is, do you? Still, it’s nice to see Dreamland getting some press again. Seems like they’ve been making a push to get back in the public eye lately. My wife found this at a spa she was visiting in Newberg, Oregon of all places, site of one of the first major Dreamland triumphs. Second, I guess, if you count Lincoln City phase 1 as their first.) The pages are a bit wrinkled because she packed it in her suitcase. If you’re at a spa in Newberg and your magazine is missing pages, you know who to blame.

Hawk and Koston on the Aquabats Super Show

Tony Hawk and Eric Koston had brief cameos hamming it up on the Aquabats Super Show season 2 premier. Gotta love the Aquabats. The show is a fun one. Like a low budget cross between the Monkeys and Ultraman.

We’re back (?)

Our normally reliable web host had a few issues while switching us over to new hardware yesterday, and as a result, S&A was unvailable for about 12 hours today. As I’m writing this we’re still experiencing sporadic difficulties and outages. Kind of reminds me of the reason we switched web hosts in the first place, about 4 years ago. Check out some vintage GVK tech satire after the jump, and stick with us, they should have everything shorted out shortly.

Nation’s Amateur Skateboarders Haven’t Landed Trick In 12 Years

As reported in The Onion. “Since 2001, recreational skateboarders have tried to perform 8.4 billion tricks and have successfully executed zero of them,” said social anthropologist and the report’s lead author Richard Burbridge, who confirmed that the overwhelming majority of failed attempts occurred after one of the riders remarked to another, “Hey, check this out.” “As it turns out, not a single amateur has landed anything since July of 2001, when a then 14-year-old boy by the name of Derek Wilcox carried out a basic ollie on an outdoor tennis court in Pasadena. And even then he didn’t get much height.” – Thanks to KC for the tip. UPDATE: This just in… Angelina Jolie Stuns In First Rollerblading Competition Since Double Mastectomy. Also via The Onion.

Cab’s shop burglarized

Steve Caballero and his wife own a little boutique in Campbell, CA. Thieves stole a bunch of signed boards from it Friday night. Tonight around 11pm at least two people broke into the store and stole about 14 signed Powell decks. If you see or hear anything please contact me @rachaelbluesky@gmail.com. They knew exactly what they wanted. The cops got some good fingerprints and found one deck stashed across the street under some leaves. #karmaisabitch Ebay buyers be aware.
