I got this comic ‘zine a while back – the copyright is 2004 – but I came across it yesterday and reread it. It features comics by John Porcellino, Dan Moynihan, Dave Kiersh, Leslie Kleinberg, Jack Turnbull, Heath Row, and John Isaacson. Moynihan seems to be the ring-leader. I don’t know if it’s still available. My email to the guy was undeliverable. This website has a little information about it and a link to the inactive website that links to a portfolio site of Moynihan’s illustration work. I enjoyed the ‘zine for a nostagic trip back to teen skater angstville. I orignally picked it up at Reading Frenzy in Portland, Oregon.

One of the stories being recycled on CNN (TV) today is footage of some guys at the winter X-Games doing back flips on Snowmobiles. Whatever. Get back to me when you do it in a pickup truck. In the mean time, in a case of life catching up to skateboarding, a 14 year old kid named Aaron Fotheringham has completed a backflip on his wheelchair. What do I mean by life catching up to skateboarding? I’m talking about the character known as Leeder O. Men from the 80’s skate zine known as Naughty Nomads. Although fictional, Leeder was the first guy to ride vert on a wheelchair. There have been admirable, but mostly tame videos on the web of guys in wheelchairs at skateparks. I have to place this picture sometime between 1989 and 1991. This is Matt Swan in the capsule at The Turf in Milwaukee Wisconsin. In the late 70’s early 80’s this park was called Surf and Turf. Pocket Pistols made a deck with the old logo on it, although it’s unclear if they ever actually went into production. The Turf was Mark Hubbard’s favorite skate park. This guy worked there. I wonder if it’s the same Time Door as this old zine?
