Thus, no returns will be accepted
There’s not much I can say about this “invention,” except I particularly dig the shoes and pants in the close up shot. A sharp dressed man can sell anything in Swartz Creek, Michigan. Skaterhusseindave, we expect a full report. I am selling a custom built board with a caster wheel on one end that will allow the user to spin around 180 and 360 degrees and a closed wheel on the other end. The board is made of red oak with 24 gauge Aluminum in the middle. Custom skateboard comes fully assembled. Each board is custom made upon order thus the long delivery time. Since each board is custom made thus no returns will be accepted. The seller doesn’t explain what the casters or rubber stoppers are for, so you are on your own there. He has zero transactions on eBay so far, so you can be the first. – Thanks to Matthijs van Wijk for the tip.
In the best interest of the sport
It’s conceivable that these trucks might work well enough for a beginner. The technology dates back to the 50’s here, and believe it or not, I think there are some dirtboard, excuse me, mountainboarding trucks out there right now that are based on the same design. Still, call me cynical, but have to believe the decision to used these wacky trucks was based purely on profit motive. Maybe at the time these were a dollar cheaper than a traditional truck. May not sound like much, but multiply by thousands and then some in projected sales… On the one hand, the X-Games provide a way for an immediate group of skateboarder to make a living off of skateboarding, and a larger group through association. On the other hand, they peddle crap like this, or at least they used to. I don’t think they make this anymore. – Thanks to Matthijs van Wijk for the tip.
Dog powered embarrassment
Man, I can’t remember how I found this, but here it is. It’s actually Dog Powered Scooter, but they also cater to skateboards and recumbent bikes, excuse me, trikes. $250 gets you one harness mount. Pictures and a scooter vid with inspirational soundtrack after the jump.
Stickboard
There are a few of us internet skateboard nerds that have been online for a while. In my “research” I used to regularly cross paths with Hung Chang AKA Sk8Norcal and his Wackyboard site. I think it used to be a Geo Cities site, that’s how long he’s been at it. He’s contributed some tips here on S&A over the years as well. With the demise of Geo Cities, he’s moved on to a new home at Blogger.com. This is the Surf Rodz carveboard, More of a stick than a board really. This may or may not be connected to a company called Surf Rodz. Hung doesn’t usually provide a lot of extraneous information, just the damaging evidence in the form of a picture or video. Head on over to Wackyboards to get an eyeful of kooky inventions. UPDATE: Added a video of the stickboard, courtesy of Mr. Wackyboard himself.
Follow DaddyYo at his new home
My inbox has been flooded with protests and requests that I ban the entity known as Daddy Yo. It’s not worth all the drama and distraction, and so I am taking the easy way out and reinstating the Daddy Yo ban. You can follow Daddy Yo at his own blog which I assume is going to dedicated to the patent on his mountainboard hybrid. The innovation here is supposed to be that the trucks are mounted on the upturned nose and tail, although I swear I’ve already seen this before, recently, and at the very least, on the Wheelee Board. I couldn’t find the actual patent online, but Michael was kind enough to send me the text from the application.
Mecha skate
Another wackyboard design concept. These things keep getting more and more complicated. You’d think the industrial design tinkerers would push for simpler. Those wheels have a heavy 70’s vibe to them. – Thanks to (drumroll please….) Daddy Yo (!) for the tip. [Source: Yanko Design]
Wackyboard Tetris
Viral promotion video from Freeboard, maybe indirectly. We’ve covered caster board hybrids before, but surprise surprise, Freeboard is still in business. The extra caster wheel makes it possible to ride sideways on the board if you want, making this Tetris tribute with neon head gear possible. On the one hand, it’s kind of cool. On the other, they aren’t doing much to help thier case. – Thanks to Tim for the tip. [Source: Yay! Everyday]
Wackyboard of the future
The concept is so out there, I don’t know if it even qualifies as a wacky skateboard anymore. I’d love to see one of these things get built. If it does, you can bet it will show up on Dydreks Fantasy Factory. The LOOP IN looks like an excellent way for someone to get hurt. No brakes! LOOP-IN is a concept transportation system crafted by combining the surfing and the skate facility. The rider can enjoy the ultimate speed on the wheels and can do some surfing acrobatics at the same time. While the wheels can rotate on almost any type of surface, the plate will rotate in its interior independently. It is like pushing by a wave continuously. Initially, the rider will have to acquire the abilities to dominate the control of these wheels on any kind of lands and at the same time learning to keep balance inside the wheels is a must. Therefore, all range of adventure lovers will like the combination of these two sports activities when riding on LOOP-IN. – Thanks to Johnny Lzr for the tip.
Free Wheelie
I couldn’t find anything on the Interwebs about what I thought was the product name. And then I realized “Free Wheelie” was a pun on the killer whale motif. Pretty slow on the uptake, huh Kil,wag? Straight from eBay Poland. Turns out these things are called Rat Tailz. A company named Sport Fun made skateboards as far back as 1978, although there’s no way to tell if the they are the same entity. – Thanks to M1CK3Y for the tip.
Meanwhile, at the toy store
X Board Illuminators as seen on the shelves at my local Toys-R-Us. These guys get around having to add the extra height by placing the batteries along side the baseplate of the truck instead of underneath. These guys even have a “pro” rider named Doug Brown. Who the hell is Dug Brown? I don’t know, but then again I don’t follow the skate mags, so maybe he is someone other than the guy who started Skate Straight, an organization that would make Ian Mackaye proud, and could probably do something for Andy Roy.
