Battle of the blands
Enjoy, if you can, these two music videos with downhill skateboarding themes. I think the first one is actually a commercial for Kia. The first is Ivan Gough & Feenixpawl ft. Georgi Kay – In My Mind (Axwell Mix) [OFFICIAL VIDEO] Thank god. I’ve been burned on those unofficial videos before. I never got my money back, it was a hard learned lesson. The second video is for the song Puppy by Netsky. You can relax though, it’s another official video. (Don’t get me started…) – Thanks to Matthijs for having poor taste in music.
Authorized Devo
It’s another Kickstarter project, this time to fund the final editing an film clip usage rights for a documentary on Devo. I mention it here on Skate and Annoy partly because they brought Tony Hawk in to comment on the Freedom of Choice video, but mostly because I love DEVO. They make a big deal about this being an authorized documentary, as compared to the Devo biography which the band originally cooperated with but ended up denouncing. I spoke to Gerald Casale about it and he said it was “all bullshit.” (Yes, I am almost that cool, but not really, I just met him at a bar after he did guest vocals with Portland’s legendary Punk Group.) Regardless of Casale’s opinion of the book, We Are Devo! is a must read if you believe in Devolution. The documentary looks good from the preview clips, I just hope they don’t water it down with too many celebrity appearances. Iggy Pop, sure, I’d love to hear about how he turned David Bowie on to Devo, (or maybe even how he turned David Bowie on) but Tony Hawk seems kind of, well, gratuitous. Surely someone like Steve Olson or Duane Peters would have…
I’m a hater
I made it through 46 seconds. I don’t think this is a joke. I mean, it’s a joke alright, but not intentionally. Enjoy “i’m a Skater” by Mac Jar & Monikape. – Thanks to Matthijs for the tip. UPDATE: Comments closed do to too much repetition. Way to offer a different opinion through, uh, mindless repetition. Don’t hate, REPLICATE.
Off: Wiped Out.
From Friday’s disco we segue int the soothing sounds of Off! It’s Monday and I want to make sure everyone starts the work week “off” on the right foot. Skateboarding footage included, so its rad and relevant. [Source: Boardistan]
She’s So Rad – Circles
Great video, really. Captures two decades of skating, the innocence of youth, humor. It’s magic, and I’m not (very) drunk. She’s so Rad is the band, In Circles is the song. Bonus: The band’s web site has an unexplained still of J. Mascis doing the double daffy. These guys may or may not be from New Zealand.

Maple Timber
Last year’s promo must have been a hit, becasue they upped it from the first 2000 to the first 5000 fans in the park who got a free Portland Timbers skateboard. I have to tell you I thought our mayor was a bit looney pushing for a major league soccer team in our town. I hold soccer in about as much entertainment esteem as the Onion does, and I figured it would flop, but boy was I wrong. Games are regularly sold out and the fans are rabid. I heard last year’s board was not really the same size as an actual skateboard, more like a toy hand board. I’m still a little bit confused by this cross promotion. Makes about as much sense as a skateboarder printed on a frisbee, or Air Grip brand flying disk as it were. But damn it all if I don’t want to jump on the bandwagon and go see a game, cause I do. Update: Well this post is pretty funny in retrospect, as 5 years later I am now a huge Timbers nerd. So much so that I actually travelled to Columbus Ohio to watch them win the MLS Cup. I Left My Heart in San Francisco
Another Mayer Hawthorne video, this one with buttload street skating. Mayer Hawthorne must dig skateboarding.
Dr Don Don
Skaters with elaborate painted faces spend the days and nights filled with suburban boredom. This is a side project from hip hop producer, Chasm I think this is a Dr Don Don tune called King of the Stars, but I can’t tell for sure because I couldn’t make it through the whole video. The costumes are the least annoying part of the video, but there is some actual skilled skating involved. [Source: Blastro] – Thanks (?) to Eric Cherry for the tip.
Wavves: Post Acid
Wavves are a San Diego that depending on who you read, is either a solo project with hired guns, the new sound, or a bunch of noise. Here’s a good place to start. They released the Post Acid single on Green Label Sound, which is a, uhm.. mp3 record label owned by Pepsi via Mountain Dew. Check out the 2010 vid and a 2009 album on Fat Possum with an old-timey looking skate photo on the cover after the jump. – Thanks to Alex I for the tip.
