Commodore C64 Skateboard & Computer in a Box
This started as another David ODK post that I rescued out of drafts and embellished. It’s an Italian special edition Commodore C64 computer that came in a box with a skateboard! David found the board on Etsy back in 2015, and I had a screen cap from Facebook that showed a box with no info whatsoever. It was hard to tell if it was real or not, but it is real. Regular googling and reverse image searches came up with nothing but a thousand pictures of vintage skateboarding video games. However, some finessing turned up a decent image on 20thcenturyvideogames.com.
That’s cold, dude.
There was a time, oh, say anything before the year 2000 when this would have seemed inconceivable. Cross marketing between a mainstream commercial brand and a core skateboarding brand? Not a big deal anymore. No, I don’t know how a “Zine Rolltop Lunch Bag” differs from a regular rollmop lunch bag. It must be more hardcore. Check out the Igloo x Independent Collection. I think the “X” is for eXtreme!
PermaStik Safety Flex
Kevin found this in the wilderness of Canada’s home improvement centers. It looks like ancient stock unearthed in a garage sale, but it’s actually a product you can still buy in a few different sizes. I contacted the one company I thought manufactured this (Perma Products) for bigger photos but they claim it’s a coincidence of names. Strange considering both PermaStik products are available in Australia and New Zealand. Nice nose bone on that death trap. – Thanks to Kevin Live for the pic.
Flexible and Radical
Believe it or not, this is not the first graphic of a skateboarder to appear on a flying disc. The other one one I have is just a generic flying disc, but this is an honest to god Frisbee™. The Malibu Skate model features what looks like an op-art frontside invert. Malibu? I heard there was a punch out. Closeup after the jump. – Thanks to Adam Wallingford for the pic.
Portland Timbers vs Canadian Maple
May 15th was free skateboard day at the PGE park. The first 2000 people to enter the Portland Timbers game vs. St Louis got a free Portland Timbers skateboard. I didn’t even find out about it until now. I’m bummed on a few levels. Bummed I didn’t know about it in advance, bummed I didn’t get a skateboard, and bummed I wasn’t the supplier. 2,000 skateboards is an expensive promotion, even if you were to buy them from China. It would take a company like, Oh , I don’t know, Cold War, a good six years to sell that many decks. I didn’t think it was legit, but it is up on the Portland Timbers Facebook page. The top graphic is the tip off that the designer probably didn’t skate. Anybody know what’s going on with the rumor that Portland might get a Major League Soccer team? Remember the episode of the Simpsons where they joked that it made actually made a town less desirable? Interesting cross sport marketing. I was going to link to a picture of a frisbee with a skateboarder on it, but either I never posted it or I can’t find it. – Thanks to Greg…
I Tattoo
It’s “I” day. We covered the I Tattoo a back in 2006, but I’ve been getting a lot of repeat tips on this one, and this picture is actually different from the advertising we featured before. The original source on this is something called People of Walmart. – Thanks to Brock Essick, Thomas Roszkowsk and others for the tip.
Snake Head Knives Maker of the world’s first Skateboard Knives
Well we’ve got skateboard lighters, so sure, why not have skateboard knives? So says Snake Head Kives, the “Maker of the world’s first Skateboard Knives.” These two are already available, or at least they exist, as there doesn’t appear to be a way to buy them. They have three new styles in the making as well. Meanwhile, Dogtown Skateboards has a limited edition signed Jesse Martinez model. I didn’t realize Dogtown was a real company again. They’ve even got re-issue Bigfoots. I’m still more than a little turned off by the Dogtown fashion line. Track suits anyone? This was a couple years ago, and it was in an asian market, so who know if it was even legit. – Thanks to William Buckley for the tip.
Skateboard Novelty Pendant Light
For only $150 you can buy this light that says to all who enter your domicile, “I like to skateboards and I have bad taste.” I was going to say this would be perfect for the Xanadu, House of the Future, but that would be insult the whole Wisconsin Dells region. Which made me curious… and then sad. The Xanadu hoses have all been demolished! Check out an old prom vid for Xanadu Homes after the jump, and mourn the future that never was. Where are those damn flying cars already? [Source: Arcadian Lighting]
Don’t have a cow, have a Squishee
Bart Simpson, naked on a skateboard. It’s a Simpsons Movie promotional tie in with 7-11. In case you aren’t aware, Bart rides a skateboard while naked in the film. It’s a plastic relief with a magnet that attaches to a special Slurpee straw. Certainly less expensive than this bit of movie memorabilia. Close up after the jump. The shirt is just something random from a hipster boutique.
Accessorize your lifestyle
Skaters love iPods and Pottery Barn. Now they can listen to their iPods by plugging them into a X Games shelf that looks like a skateboard and has built in speakers. The shelf can be used for magazines or copies of CD’s that they probably didn’t buy in the first place. Did you just get kicked off your skateboard team? Wrap yourself up in a nice X Games blanket and stare at your X Games wall mural from the comfort of your X Games bed sheets. [Source – Gizmodo]
