The Hulkster Skateboarding in a Bad Movie

Consummate wrestling showman and lousy, racist human being Hulk Hogan died on July 24, 2025. In 1991 he made the movie Suburban Commando which has a few skateboarding scenes in it and features a skateboard in the poster art. The Hulk starred as an intergalactic warrior who had to take some down time on earth. He has a run in with kids on skateboards and he Wilsons it pretty comically. Somehow he becomes an expert skateboarder at some point in the plot after acquiring a 6 wheel battle skateboard. I’ve only seen a few clips from the movie so I don’t know how prominently it features, but the stunts are over the top, with lots of cut scenes showing a double doing crazy flips in the air, and shots from the knees down only. This movie seems like it would fall into he “so-bad-it’s-good” category. Notice the generic Powell Peralta board in the stills.

John & Iggy & Mike

I love it when worlds collide. You’re looking at a picture of director John Waters and Iggy Pop, likely taken around 1990, possibly promoting the film Cry Baby. And, you’re looking at it on Skate and Annoy because I love both of these guys, and Iggy is wearing a Powell Peralta Mike McGill t-shirt. You have to wonder how Iggy got his hands on that. I would love to credit this photo but all I can find are reposts. It looks like it appeared in a newspaper or magazine at some point. If you know the original source please let me know. On the right: It’s the 40th anniversary of the McTwist? I guest was last year. If you’re going to buy a skateboard commemorating the event you might as well get it from Mike McGgill. Ask Mark Conahan about his Iggy Pop story…

Sandy West – The Runaways Wild Thing

There’s a lot of staged vintage celebrity skateboarding photos, but somehow this one was new to me. It’s a 1977 picture of Runaways drummer Sandy West taken by Michael Ochs. Sandy was known as the Runaways Wild Thing. She died in 2006 from lung cancer. An alternate shot, plus a bonus pic of bassist Jackie Fox on a balance board after the jump.

Paul Rudd, Certified Young Person

A public service announcement by the state of New York and certified young person Paul Rudd. Stick around til the end, and wear a damned mask so we don’t have to keep talking about Covid 19. I wonder if Paul knows Lenny Wozniak.

Whatzit Man

These are movie posters from the 1992 movie Encino Man, or “California Man” as they called it in France. I’m not sure what the Thai translation is. I’m not sure if Brenden Frazier actually rides a skateboard in the movie, and I’m not about to go watch it and find out. A quick search for Pauly Shore on a skateboard turns up one animated gif that may be from the movie, who knows. Quality stuff right here on Skate and Annoy. I kid you not. – Thanks to Claude Queyrel for the tip.

Your own, personal, Tony Hawk cameo.

You can now pay to have various levels of “celebrities” record personalized video messages for you. Amongst other personalities like Pee Wee Herman (!!), there are currently 52 skateboarders to chose from, some famous, some not-so-famous. The pay scale is sliding and serves as a barometer for how popular (or how bored) these personalities are. Bucky Lasek for only $15??? Even the Lizard King is up to $25. Guys like Jason Jesse are going for $25, while a puffy Bam Margera can be rented for $65. Was little surprised to see Richie Jackson on there at all, but I guess it’s a quick $50 for him that can come in handy at the local thrift store. Skate and Annoy really needs personalized video from Tony Hawk saying how much this site sucks. Now accepting donations…

Thisis exactly the kind of hard-hitting skateboarding Journalism you can expect from Skate and Annoy. CNN posted leaked surveillance video obtained by Spanish newspaper El Pais, including a a short clip of a very pale looking Assange learning to ride a skateboard. We’re talking Draco Malfoy pale. He looks a little like Butch Vig. [Source: CNN] Tip – Tony Cave via FB

Nazi Buttboarders

These are stills from a 1998 Time Life/BBC documentary on Erwin Rommel’s death titled “What Really Happened to Rommel – Secrets That Won WWII.” This footage shows Rommel with friends and family riding what appears to be some sort of homemade roller coaster track on a cart that resembles a skateboard. There is no explanation for this event in the voiceover. If the video plays from the beginning, go ahead and skip to the 32 minute mark. – Thanks to Caveman for the tip.
