Crappy skateboard of the month

In this edition we have some Malone skateboards. Malone was a brand that produced crappy skateboards in the 80s, but I really don’t know much about it, besides the fact that they were pretty crappy and my brother had one.  I was riding a Rusher Sports  ‘California Pro’ (even worse than a Pro 90) at that time and my brother bought a ‘Malone’ from this sports store. I have never seen these decks back untill now on eBay. Funny thing, I remember my brother ( he was 10 or 11 at that time) described his boards as ‘semi-pro’, haha, but I guess he had a point there, since they were actually better than the ‘Turbo 2’ ones. More models after the jump.

A crew at one site invites other crews from around Europe to a weekend DIY fest. Crews compete, the spot wins. Great soundtrack, great concrete, a sense of humor and a sense of pure awesome fun. Watch this video from Gypsy Skate. – Tip via Tim Kulas

Zine gallery is back

The zine gallery has been restored with larger images from the original scans. The new back end makes it a lot easier to add new zines to the gallery, and I’m sitting on a lot of scans right now. The biggest time draw is re-reading them and transcribing the information, but it’s a good incentive to stop watching TV. Check out the 25 issues available now in the 80’s Zine Gallery.

A sound business model

Bling and babes on Beverly Skates boards. Located in Beverly Hills California our small skateboard company strives for perfection. We try to uphold the high standards of our community, at the same time leave an open invitation for you to be a part of it. Beverly Skates was founded upon principals that put our heart and soul into our product as much as you the skater have chosen to put your heart and soul into skateboarding. Originally established in 1983, the owner Brian sidelined the company after a few years to persue a career in aviation. His younger brother Sean decided to bring back the company more than twenty years later. Both brothers still communicate freely on company concepts. We try to add a fresh approach to the company while at the same time never forgetting its original rawness. So…. yeah. Friday you know what.

Nash skateboards poster for Above Coping

Nash ad repro benefits Above Coping

A while ago I screen printed a reproduction of a Nash Park Rider advert from a 70’s era comic book for the purpose of donating them to an Above Coping benefit. These remaining artist proofs are available online through Above Coping for $15 postage paid, although you’re welcome to kick in extra cash if you want because all proceeds benefit Above coping. Gender Neutral Br

I was hanging out at Target a couple weeks ago, because I am a red blooded American consumer. I always migrate to the toys eventually, which is right next to the crappy sports equipment selection. I noticed this Tony Hawk branded “80’s retro Skateboard” and after examining it brought it to the scanner to find out how much they were schilling it for. It turns out a “Gender Neutral Br” costs $59.99.

I code for you

I’ve been working on porting some of the old static HTML content into the Wordpress powered back end. The latest addition is the old Galleries section. Most of the work was in figuring out how to make the old format fit, and now that’s done. Well… mostly. There are a few things that need to be tightened down, but it’s good enough to start filling in the massive hole. It actually goes pretty fast. Last night I put up four issues in the 80’s Skate Zine collection, including Freezine #11, Chi-Town Shred #5, Harsh Vibes #2 and Concrete Crusaders #2. UPDATE: Added
