Skate gluttons
Dan Glowicki sent out an email last week asking if anyone had plans to skate Friday after Thanksgiving. What?! and miss the start of the shopping season? Brad suggested getting together to play golf as a change of pace. Why not a visit to a car dealership to test drive Hummers? Better yet, Cannonball run!
SOTW 11-26-07: Heineken Pool
This weeks SOFTW is Steve Schneer at the Heineken pool taken by Jim Goodrich in March of 1979. Check it out.
Playing with toys
Another in the many skateboard related toys being pushed for the hiolidays. This Playmobil Skate Park comes recommended from Parents magazine.
Riders on a mission
The theme song for Nickelodeon’s Rocket Power goes… We are riders on a mission, action kids in play position. Rocket Power! Rocket Power! We are riders on a mission, action kids in fun condition. Prepare to count down… Rocket Power! Mark Conahan is heading up a team of riders on a mission to skate thirteen skateparks in one day. He’s documenting it as he goes along on Antigravity Remote. Five years ago this would have been a more daunting task. He’ll be heading to Burnside, Woodland, Battleground, Vancouver, Pier Park, Glenhaven, West Linn, Holly Farm, Tigard, Donald, Newberg, McMinnville and Aumsville. Crap. I forgot to include a picture of McMinnville.
Stouffer your face
Since most of our readers are likely stuffing thier faces today, here’s a Stouffer Pizza Bread commercial circa 2002 that features a fresh faced young man who likes to walk around his kitchen fully padded up. The producers probably made sure the kid was wearing full safety gear for liability purposes or at least to set a good example. I guess they overlooked the part about skating down the middle of the street while trying to balance and eat a giant wad of pizza bread. Anybody know who this kid is?
Watch your food intake today
I can’t remember what I made this Search for Animal Double Chin paradoy for. The file creation date says January of 2005. Might have been from when I spent more time trolling Sleestak and Concrete Disciples than I did writing at Skate and Annoy. Happy Thanksgiving, and don’t eat too much or you’ll end up like this guy. Apologies to our international readers… I guess most of you can still be thankful that we haven’t invaded you yet and our Presidential elections are getting nearer. USA! USA! USA!
Alyssa Milano and Colin McKay
Alyssa Milano and Colin McKay for 1 800 Collect circa 2002, captured on glorious VHS (how barbaric!) and transferred to mini DV. Now it’s on YouTube, the VHS equivalent… Who is the other guy? Shouldn’t be too hard to figure out, I mean how many black vert skaters are out there? Memorable quote: “You could remember that doing a goofy footed double fakie ollie grind.” Also features the obligatory I’m trying something crazy and I’m going to wipe out. Oh well, beats Carrot Top any day.
Light, Love & Death
Cesinha Chaves is passionate about pool skating. You may have seen some of the Cexa Podcasts, and now he’s got a DVD coming out in December called Light, Love & Death. I thought the title was just touchy-feely nonsense until my brain clicked on and I saw the picture of the light, love seat, and death box. At first I thought this was a Brazillian pool skating documentary, but I think it just has some Brazillian guys in it. And of course, you can’t make a pool video with out Slaba. There’s also some Killing Joke in the soundtrack. Hooray! You can view a higher quality 19MB file or watch it on YouTube after the jump. No info on where you can buy it, but I did find this on Brasil Skate. Update: Now available for sale internationally.
Well I’ll be damned…
The News Herald reports that Bay County Parks and Recreation Department in Panama City, Florida has an extra $1.5 million or so and is trying to figure out what to do with it. One of their very bright and apparently unsolicited ideas is to build a skatepark. It’s not too often that a skatepark falls from the sky. The locals didn’t have to rally the troops or even get Matthew Lesko involved.
Strummer: The Future is Unwritten
Dr Brad wrote a review of the Julien Temple film Strummer: The Future is Unwritten. and proceeded to nag me relentlessly until I got it posted. It got to the point where I was considering not using it out of spite! So here it is, becasue if I don’t take care of this immediately, he may decide not to make his annual written contribution to Skate and Annoy.
