It’s hard to associate the word “epic” with a wooden skatepark, but I think Team Pain may have in fact pulled it off. Epic I was skeptical when I heard some of the gushing about it in the intro to the Transworld video, but as the frames kept coming, it started to become more and more clear. Not only is this thing huge… HUGE, but it’s also go some very interesting obstacles in the form of wooden bases or tranny topped off with concrete skating surfaces. Epic Indoor Skatepark in Rocklin, CA (near Sacramento) is set to have it’s grand opening March 14th and 15th. “I Get Around” is a compilation from Ontario’s famous (?) TeeVee Records that might be related to the current operation named TeeVee operating out of Nashville Tennessee. The original TeeVee was pretty much the same as K-Tel records, which is also based in Canada. If you were lucky the record you bought would be a compilations of popular or formerly popular songs. If you were unlucky, it would be a compilation of cover versions of those songs. Sometimes you might find something more interesting, like a moog synthesizer studio band covering tripped out ABBA instrumentals. Today’s TeeVee appears to be focused on country music greatest hits compilations from yesteryear.

Here’s a roundup of some more skateable architecture. These aren’t just fantasy proposals. The top two are scheduled for construction and the bottom two have already been built. I titled this collection “marginally skateable” not because the terrain is barely skateable, but because the skateable features are just a small part of the overall design.

This week’s Shot of the Week comes from Brazil via reader Nathaa Nobile. It’s a Rodrigo Vianna photo of “Sujo” at a spot in Praça Roosevelt (or Roosevelt Garden) in São Paulo, Brazil. I chose this one because I really like the angles, composition and the way the perspective on the building makes it a bit surreal, almost like a photo collage. Aero, a candy bar brand popular in the UK, filmed an commercial spot with Bob Burnquist skating at the Lake Cunningham skate park with the bowls filled with brown balloons to resemble the bubbles in the chocolate. It looks great, trouble is, it’s an exact copy of the same concept that was actually shot here in at Portland’s D.O.S.. Ignorance is going to be hard to claim, considering Apple Computer is currently showing the original video in some of their in-store loops for Apple TV. Speaking of pixelated, it’s been a year and a half since we tackled bad skateboarding video games from the 8 bit days. It was called  “Seven days of bad skateboarding video games” but apparently I abandoned the concept after only three ( 1 – 2 – 3) days. Metro Cross has the honor of winning the worst video game box cover in a PC World article. – Thanks to Bobcat for the tip.

Just as there is a group of enthusiasts who get a kick out of building life size models of objects, including skateboards, from Legos, there’s another group of Lego builders that exclusively builds larger than life (10x) replicas of Lego figures out of… Legos. Dave over at Brick Player has made a 10x replica of a Lego minifig skateboarder. In case you are wondering, he’s got a popsicle in his hand for some reason.

Unless they get rained out again… This Saturday the 28th there will be a ramp Jam at the Norcal Surf Shop (650-738-9283) in Pacifica CA, next to the Linda Mar (Taco Bell) Beach, 1 Block North of the Skatepark on Highway 1 (Cabrillo Hwy) at 5460 Coast Hwy. Just like the title says; it’s Old School Skateboarding Slams from the northern Indianapolis area, circa ’87-90. Nothing in it stands out as spectacular, but taken as a whole it’s got a big warm, fuzzy vibe. My favorite slam starts at the 1:35 mark. It’s way off in the background and doesn’t make a good screen capture, so I went with my second favorite slam that happens immediately after. GVK said he felt like he could have been at any one of these sessions. Watch the whole thing after the jump.
