The Danny Bearer show
Original Makaha and Hobie team rider and the first National and International Champion Skateboarder, Danny Bearer has been lurking on S&A for a while. Becasue he doesn’t seem to be able to keep his PR comments on topic, I decided to give him his own post. Danny, this is it. This is where you can let everyone know about your book, movie, media appearances, all of it. ….have finished the new film “Defence Above All” Contact 310-452-1030 or dannybearer@yahoo.com and dannybearerenterprises.com, Thank you,the book is in the works. The story of the first Professional Skateboard Club Makaha and the 10 year World Championship Team reign of the Hobie Alter Golden Diamond Surf Team still in competition in California in the early 1960’s , Thank you, Larry Stevenson, the Father of the Skateboard and Hobie Alter! Very truly yours, Danny Bearer Speaking of movies, the Makaha web site says filming has almost wrapped on a project called “Makaha, The Story of the Originator.” Meanwhile, catch some vintage video of Danny and his teammates in action after the jump. Juice Magazine has an online excerpt of an interview with Danny in issue #57, conducted by Steve Olson. Lastly, let’s not forget DannyBearerEnterprises.com. [Photo:…
Grosso Interview on C.D.
I forgot who sent me this, but there’s a really good interview with Jeff Grosso on Concrete Disciples that includes lots of recent (rad) photos like the one above from MRZ. In keeping with the recent photos, the interview doesn’t rehash any of the old stories or his battles with addiction, it’s all about the present. Grosso was a friendly guy the last time he came through here.
Reeses Puffs Commercial
Spohn Ranch built a miniramp for a Reeses Puffs commercial shot in a backyard of Pasadena, CA home that I have yet to see on air. Keep your eyes glued to Nickelodeon.
Let’s film a music video in a pool, again.
An unnamed Domino Records band wants to shoot a music video in an empty pool in the L.A. area. They say it will take a good day of shooting, so it sounds like it will need to be a permission pool. I told the rep that it sounded like a lazy scam to find an empty pool to skate, but he assured me it was legit. They need skaters too, and there will be some sort of compensation involved. You can contact Robert Nell if you want to hook him up. In the mean time, let’s revisit a brief (incomplete) history of skateboarding in pool like structures in music videos. In the top row there are two shots from the current running band AFS (Arthritic Foot Soldiers) that has a video shot in a wooden bowl for the song “Chicks, Beer, Fame & Money” off the album Immature Nobodies. Check out the longboard guitar. It’s an interesting application, but not nearly as well done as the one featured on the cover of the Surf Punks first album My Beach. Then of course there is the grandaddy of all bowl riding skate videos, any of Agent Orange’s segments from SkateVisions. Another…
Wet cement?
Nope. Keep of the grass! I think someone was “on the grass” in Houston when they decided to order this sign. Thanks to Dan from Northwest Skater for this one.
Extreme Nuns
Yes, well, sometimes there isn’t a lot to say about things, as is the case with Atomic Wedgie TV’s Extreme Nuns. I guess if I had to say one thing it would be that Atomic Wedgie TV doesn’t know the definition of the term “acid drop.” Watch the vid after the jump. [Source: Skateboarding Jesus]
Brennand Schoeffel: H-Street, Life and Real Estate
Some, but not all things Brennand Schoeffel: Brennand in the 1988 H-Street video Shackle Me Not, at Skatebored. Brennand on the cover of the October 1990 issue of Thrasher Magazine. 1991 Interview with Brennand from his time at Life in John Doe #34. A Life Skateboards advert from 1991 on Skateboarding Is. Two Brennand Schoeffel Life Skateboard models at Vaskateboards.com. And lastly, Brennand Schoeffel, currently a realtor for Rancho Buena Vista Real Estate. – Thanks to Johnny Lzr for the tip.
Herman’s Hole
It’s been about a year since we checked in on the Missouri DIY bowl called Herman’s Hole. There’s a web site called Skatelouis that has a nice read on the history of the project, as well as info on 1st anniversary party being held May 10th. Herman’s Hole has a MySpace page, and the Showmepools blog has some constructions pics as well. Stick around after the jump to watch the video. – Thanks to Tim Jamison and Bob Mechtly for the tip.
It’s all worth it
Sometimes I get depressed about all the petty bickering that goes on here concerning transition and street plazas, skateboard collecting, and whatever nonproductive mudslinging that surrounds a site with a name like Skate and Annoy. On other days I am pleasantly surprised with emails from people who have actually found the site useful and inspiring. Kyle Pratt of Team Nasty sent in some pictures after getting stoked by our DIY tutorial on screenprinting for skateboards. I’ve gotten quite a few responses from the articles, but rarely any pictures. Send in your pics if you actually follow any of our advice, and I’ll put them up. If you’re in the Morrisville, PA area, keep an eye out for these Team Nasty riders.
Hood River is still Open
When is a hippie jump not a hippie jump? When you hippie jump a hesher. Here’s a few more pics from the Hood river field office, AKA Carl Warren. Bonus shots after the jump.
