Peach Orchard D.I.Y. spot
Back in May of last year there was a Shot of the Week from a DIY spot in New Orleans that has since become known as Peach Orchard. I’m happy to report that the spot is still going and they’ve added some new concrete. They’re holding benefits and accepting donations via Paypal and the head bean counter Joey O’Mahoney.
New Year’s send off
On the last day of the year a crew from Albany, Oregon made a trip up to Portland to sessions some spots and say farewell to 2010. Micha Lawrence shot some photos of Brandon Rowton, Robert Selph and Ryan Gray. Check ’em out after the jump.
Unrelated reader videos
I’ve got two reader videos for you. One is from sometime friend of the site Colin Walsh (Rules!). It’s a Burnside Halloween video. The other is from someone in “The Crew” who I can’t place and probably doesn’t actually visit the site. I think it’s someone who friended me on Facebook from one of those “you might know” bubbles. Enjoy two diametrically opposed soundtracks.
BCSA Call for art
The Benton County Skateboarding Alliance is looking art to show and sell at the forth Annual Art & Music Benefit to raise money to improve the Eric Scott McKinley Skatepark in Corvallis, OR. They’re currently raised about 10% of their 90k goal, so there’s a ways to go. I’m pleased to say that I’m already prepared to send a few things.
Alis Paint Board
Here’s a short but crazy video of a guy with two paint rollers fixed to his board instead of trucks. It comes from the folks at Alis in Denmark with no explanation whatsoever. Whoever this is, he doesn’t seem to have a problem ripping on a wackyboard. – Thanks to Michel Skart Poulin for the tip.
Locals Only
No, not another Surf Punks post. This is Hugh Holland’s new book published by Ammo Books. A couple images and a few words after the jump.
Sponsor Luv: Welcome art contest
Head on over to the Welcome Skateboards facey Facebook pagey page and make some skateboard art follow a few Facebook related ruley rules and you could win a skateboard and a t-shirt. The field is… very light right now, it’s wide open. Get some!
Bizarro
There’s something inherently funny about the idea of Abe Lincoln on a skateboard. Ask MC, he’s heard me discuss the idea before (Abe and I also share a birthday-MC). If ever there was an heir apparent to the Far Side, it’s got to be the slightly darker Bizarro. Before the holidays he ran this cartoon called The Gettysburg Tweet. The artist Dan Piraro has it in color on his blog. I like that he posts his comics on his site without removing them after a period of time like so many other syndicated comics. I wonder if he had to negotiate that in his contract.
Happy New Year
Our gift to you, a little wonky because I’ve never compressed HD vid before and it choked on the raw upload. But you get the point. We love our audience. Thanks for tuning in during 2010, looking forward to 2011. We’ve got lots of ideas.
Mongonex
So bummed out. I had sketched out and idea to do pretty much the exact same thing, but like pretty much everything else, no time to do it. The folks at DVS came up with a good one. It’s pretty well executed. I would have put actual mongo skate footage in the spot, but they stuck true the genre of the commercials, never actually showing the problem just showing the people who suffer from it. And who am I kidding, the production values on this are 10 times better than anything with the S&A name on it. That’s part of my New Year’s resolution, to get back to more original content and actually produce some of the ideas that have been collecting dust. This bit is one of a series of videos in the same vein that are part of a really vague contest they are having called InNovation whether the idea is to invent something or come up with an idea or don’t do anything. Like I said, it’s vague. – Thanks to Greg Baller for the tip.
