SOTW 12-24-07: Louisville Kentucky in the rain
I was driving from Florida to Oregon, via Chicago on the last few days of 2003. I detoured through Louisville in hopes of catching a session at the then relatively new mammoth skatepark. Of course, being winter, it was raining. Look closely and you’ll see a creek running through the full pipe. There were a handful of kids goofing around at the park, skating and biking in the rain. I was disappointed of course, and vowed that I’d have to make the return trip in better weather. But then the last four years in the Northwest have seen an amazing number of stellar parks built, so as each year passes I find it less and less of a big deal if I don’t make it back. Still, I’d like to check it out. I enjoy the experience of skating in completely different geographical locations, even if the actual terrain may not warrant the time, money and effort it takes to get there. This was a low light, longer exposure that was hand held. It does an adequate job of capturing the atmosphere. Check it out.
SOTW 12-17-07: The youth of today
This week’s late Shot of the Week is Jack Grover killing two birds with one stone, playing a skateboarding video game while standing on his skateboard. At least he’s not sitting on the couch. I have to admit I chose this picture after running out of ideas seeing a shot of little kids goofing off on a skateboard on Skate Daily, last week I think. Check it out.
SOTW 12-10-07: Rob Washburn at Cito Ramp, 1986
This week’s Shot of the Week is a 1986 picture of Rob Washburn at the Cito ramp, taken by Doug Pennsinger. Check it out.
SOTW 11-26-07: Heineken Pool
This weeks SOFTW is Steve Schneer at the Heineken pool taken by Jim Goodrich in March of 1979. Check it out.
SOTW: 11-19-07 – Arizona pool party
This weeks shot is from an Arizona pool party that Old Man Army recently threw, complete with live honky tonk on the deck. Russell proves you can rock and roll to honky tonk. You can see it larger over at the Shot of the Week.
Watch out for the crack on that transition!
SOTW: 11-12-07
This weeks SOTW comes from Kings Park in Bristols UK, courtesy of Bob Scumtash. So we went to Kings Park t’other weekend and some tweaker turned up with a loada posh camera gear. “I used to skate, can I take your pic?” Errrm…Wayne had a quiet word bout “reprezentin tings” correctly and we did some stunts. Got a bit lame after a while and the dude started to take shots of us carving a corner, never one to miss an opportunity I hitched me kegs down a little a did a sweet carve over his head for the close up Harris shot. This one’s a keeper mate… I had a hard time deciding on whether or not this was a candidate for Annoying Kid of the Month. I figured Shot of the Week was a better fit. Besides, I don’t want to have to start updating that section too! Check it out in all it’s, uh, full glory.
SOTW: 11-5-07
This week’s shot is Matt Mastrovito on a pivot fakie somewhere in Edmonton, Alberta Canada. Check it out.
SOTW: 10-29-07
This week’s shot comes courtesy of Davoud at Concussion. If this Royce Nelson crail at a San Pablo pool looks familiar, it’s because it also ran printed in Low Card. But hey, it’s in color here. Check out the the un-cropped version here.
SOTW 10-22-07: Zane Tobin
This week’s late post on the Shot of the Week is Zane Tobin as photographed by his father Dave. When this was taken at the new Vancouver skatepark, Zane was a few weeks shy of his fifth birthday. Amazing! Zane was at Tigard last weekend and I was watching him. He’s so comfortable on his board it’s like second nature to him already. He’s as solid on a board as any other little kid his age is just walking around. It’s going to be fun watching that little ripper’s progress. I’m not one to preach (yeah right!) but seriously Dave, let’s get a lid on that kid. Now there’s no need for anyone else to beat it to death in the comments. How big is that capsule? Check out Zane Tobin!
Shot of the Week: John Cardiel by Bryce Kanights
Ooops! Forgot to switch over the week. I’d feel bad except it seems to keep happening, so everyone still gets about a full week. This week’s shot comes courtesy of Bryce Kanights, who had this to say: From the early 90s and beyond John Cardiel blew many minds and raised skateboarding’s gnar level up several notches. In 1992 he leapt over Ft. Miley’s tall turnbuckle setting yet another benchmark. Check out the full size version of this week’s Shot of the Week.
