SOTW 3-3-08: Benji Galloway BSTS
This week’s Shot of the Week is Benji Galloway hitting a backside tailslide at a pool in Woodside, CA during the summer of 2007, taken by Davoud Kermaninejad. I hear Benji just won the Florida Bowl Riders Cup, at Cocoa Beach Skate Park. Check out this shot.
SOTW 2-25-08
This weeks SOTW is Casey Mcmaugh at a hush hush backyard DIY spot in California. How hush? The Walrus wouldn’t even give up the name of city! Photo by the ubiquitous MRZ. Check out the larger uncropped version.
SOTW 2-18-08: Jeff Phillips in Houston
It’s not always about the clarity or the technical execution. Sometimes I just like the way a shot looks, as is the case with this shot of Jeff Phillips taken in Houston. I like the blur and all the artifacts. The overall quality of the pic outweighs any faults. Photo by Sonny Robertson, 198… See the uncropped version here.
SOTW 2-11-08: Marc Haziza at the Skatepark of Paris
This Week’s Shot of the Week is Marc Haziza at the newly opened Skatepark of Paris, taken by Frederic Lannois. Check out the full size version. Look at those seams and you’ll see it’s a prefab concrete park. But, hey! Check out that roof! Sure could use one of those around here.
SOTW 2-04-08: Christian Hosoi at a backyard ramp
This week’s SOTW is a Jason Oliva shot of Christian Hosoi launching a backside air at Jeff Roenings ramp in New Jersey circa 1986. The larger size photo has a link to Jason’s recollections on the session. Check it out.
SOTW 1-28-08: Devil Machine
These week’s Shot of the Week is Damien’s aptly titled 2006 picture of a Corvallis Oregon pool about to bite the dust. Check it out.
SOTW 1-21-08: Steve Olson by Steve Grover
Some time in 2003 Steve Grover was skating by himself at the West Linn skatepark in the middle of the day. Steve Olson showed up out of the blue and took a few runs. Then he got out an old Polaroid camera and asked Steve Grover if he would snap a few shots. Grover said sure, but also suggested that he get to keep a couple. It was a win-win situation. Check out the Shot of the Week, plus a bonus alternate shot after the jump.
SOTW 1-14-08: Minnesota DIY spot
This is Cookie phot of BJ is from a Minnesota DIY spot, sent in by William Morrill. Whats up dudes, just contributing a photo of a front hurricane @ a spot me my friends made in Minnesota. Its a fun quarter with some vert and hand made pool cope. You can drink beers and sk8 all day there with no hassles.. Beer? Skateboarding? No hassles? Sounds horrible! William’s got time to send in pictures because that spot is probably under three feet of snow right now. Check out the uncropped version.
SOTW 1-7-08: Vancouver Plaza
Man, getting hacked and a having to essentially take 24 hours off from the web site due to work (real job in the real world) really set me back here. I feel like I lost this whole week. This week’s very, very late Shot of the Week comes from Dylan Davies. It’s Warren Jones doing a backside flip over a the seven set at the Vancouver Plaza in Vancouver BC. Check it out.
SOTW 12-31-07: Art Godoy choked by a security guard
Hell, I think this is Art Steve Art. I can tell them apart now but back then… This was from an NSA sanctioned vert and street contest held outdoors in Indianapolis Indiana. It was either 1988 0r 1989, I can’t remember. The Godoys had a reputation for being trouble makers, so I thought it would be funny to pose a shot of Art getting choked by a security guard, who was only too happy to oblige. The effect is kind of ruined by the huge grin on the security guy’s face. Art didn’t seem to be into it, but agreed to play along, I think mostly to thank us for printing a long Godoy interview in a print issue. We were one of the few zines that wanted anything to do with them. Now I’m thinking this might have been Steve actually. Only one of the brothers was there. You know who was there though? Rich from EPM, although I didn’t find this out until last year some time. Anyway, any comedic/editorial brilliance on my part was wasted as I never used this shot for anything until now. Check it out.
