Home improvement
Pool trowels found at my local Lowes home improvement center. I can’t imagine people who build real pools in Portland go to Lowes to buy thier specialized tools. Still, here they are.
Redmond preview
This is a shot of a Salem local named Billy who was visiting the Redmond, Oregon skatepark at the same time we were there over the weekend. Enlarge-o-rama.
Bizarro in camera effects (AKA More trifecta stalling)
I as going through my Trifecta pictures trying to get something together when this one caught my eye. Check out how Mason Huggin’s right foot looks like it’s being severed by his board. I swear to you this is not photoshop trickery, rather the result of some weird flash effect. All I’ve done is adjusted the levels slightly, and obviously cropped and resized it. I’ve included a full size close up of the foot in question, It looks totally doctored, but it isn’t.
Grind for Life’s Mike Rogers
This is a Micheal Goetz photo of Grind for Life’s founder Mike Rogers at the now defunct X-Games park. Mike gets around man. It seems like he’s at every event. Enlarge-o-rama.
Kona snake run
This is Jeff Stevens hitting the slalom portion of the iconic Kona skatepark. Damn, I wish we had one of those things around here. I know it’s not the most efficient use of concrete, dollar for dollar as far as skateparks go, but it sure looks like a lot of fun. Enlarge-o-rama and bonus. Oh hey, he’s wearing a Kona Kanoa flyaway at Kona….
John’s Bowl
Benji Galloway at Johns Bowl. Photo by Colin Walsh Rules suckas! EPM has more shots of John’s bowl. I would have made this a Sponsor Luv post, but then Colin would have had to pay Colin.
Midwest Movement
Check out some more Midwest skateboard action from Ryan Young, the same photog who shot this week’s Shot of the Week. I originally spotted his photos over on the Bacon Skateboards site, and Ryan has been kind enough to share some more. Four photos and one video simply titled “Midwest Movement” after the jump.
Nikon D90 = Less crap to carry around
New cameras aren’t usually something I’d feel compelled to cover unless it somehow impacts skateboarding photography, but there are some extenuating circumstances here. First of all, they are using skateboarding a little in the promo materials, which isn’t a big deal by itself. Nice free advertising for Independent Trucks though… The D90 is two steps forward in the evolution of the camera I’ve been using for skate shots for the past three years or so, the D70. At the time, it was the first consumer digital SLR that had the option to use equivalent of a 16mm fisheye, my go to lens for skate photography. The D90 that was just announced improves on the D70 and D80 before it incrementally as well as adding the ability to shoot HD resolution movie clips up to five minutes long. The skatespot they use in the demo footage looks like it is in the Pacific Northwest somewhere, dare I say Seattle or Vancouver? One of our readers should be able to identify the location. I’ve got some stills pulled out plus more camera talk after the jump. [Source: Gizmodo]
Throwing Fitz in Vancouver
Holy cow, it’s street coverage in Skate and Annoy… sort of. It’s still at a skate spot, and it’s still on tranny, but so what. Pete Lewis sent in a sequence of Fitz (of Rage!) doing a blunt slide at Tenny Creek, one of Vancouver Washington’s neighborhood skate spots. I’ve been sort of hassling him to become a contributor, but he’s a busy man or otherwise uninterested, so this is better than nothing. Why isn’t he riding his pro model? Static and animated version after the jump.
Meanwhile, back at Donald
BJ Morrill sent in this photo by Matt “Cookie” Jenkins. What is this , a Lowcard advert? What’s his deal? We were out in Oregon a couple months ago and here is a random pic from the Donald park. It was really hot out that day and we consumed lots of beer. Fair enough. Click to enlarge. He didn’t even mention that he’s riding for a company out of Wisconsin called Black Tooth skateboards. I had to look it up. I love the Midwest. I hate the Midwest. I love Wisconsin. Hey BJ, how’s that new Dreamland park in Lake Delton? Where do I know this guy from? I had to look it up on my own site.
