Park Slalom in West Linn on Saturday
Park slalom is back in West Linn. Skate Legion has the low down, but it’s pretty much the same info you see in the flyer above. Man, I haven’t been to West linn in… I’m gong to say two, possibly three years. I wonder if the neighbors have relaxed now that there are so many other Portland area skateparks open. Stp by the contest and say hello to former S&A contributer and contest co-organizer Mike Estes.
Clash at Clairemont
50-50.com has a Dan Bourqui gallery of sequential photos from the recent Clash At Clairemont. Clash At Clairemont is a Grind for Life event. The pictures might look a like an odd choice at first, but it’s because they are animated gifs and they take a while to load. That’s a cropped still of Lincoln Ueda up top. check it out.
St Valentine’s Day Massacre
The Dept. will be hosting the ST. VALENTINE’S DAY MASSACRE Contest Sunday Feb. 14th. Mike and Justin over at Shrunken Head Skateboards are the masterminds behind this unique event that promises to be a departure from any contest you’ve experienced in the past. All your favorites in LOCAL PORTLAND SKATEBOARDING will be representing. Face it, you more than likely don’t have a valentine so there should be no good reason you don’t check this out. We feel like Charlie Brown becasue we weren’t even invited.
Bacon Friday, Not a photo opp on Saturday
Tonight it the Bacon video premiere at DOS, free skate starts at 7pm, and ends at 8pm with the video premiere of Unheard. Saturday, January 23RD Cal’s Pharmacy is hosting an opening of photos from Mark Whiteley’s new book “THIS IS NOT A PHOTO OPPORTUNITY.” Mark will be here signing his book and Chris Johanson will be providing music. There are two Skate Like A Girl events coming up: Skate Like a Girl (Seattle) presents Wheels of Fortune part deux, the biggest skate contest for the ladies in the Pacific Northwest! Sunday November 29th!, 11am to 1pm at The Department of Skateboarding 15 NE Hancock, Portland. ALL AGES, ALL ABILITIES! Come practice your skateboarding skills and learn new ones from our crew of all female skate coaches. Don’t have your own gear? No worries! We have some extra skateboards and safety gear you can borrow for the session. $10 suggested donation.
More indoor fun near Portland. Toxic Skate
There’s a rash of new indoor skate facilities in the greater Portland area. You might remember the Toxic Skate pen made from used skateboard decks earlier this year. Toxic Skates in Vancouver, Washington has a new location with a recently completed bowl. Grand opening is this Saturday at 12:00. Some Bacon dudes will be there. BCSA Gnar B-Q Saturday in Corvallis
“The BCSA presents the 1st annual GnarBQ & Nontest Saturday September 26, 2009. Up Rise Skate Shop is sponsoring an outlaw pusher contest starting at 11:00 am from Martin Luther King Jr. Park off NW Walnut Blvd in Corvallis and ending at the stakepark, located at the intersection SE 2nd and B streets. Under the Bridge in Portland
Under the Bridge tonight is where you’ll find Crispin Glover.. No wait, that’s at the river’s edge. New from Thrasher and the guy that brought you the big-bang-for-the-buck beer series, it’s Under the Bridge. It’s a chronicle of D.I.Y. bridge projects subtitled “Quit bitching and start building.” Expect to see footage of Burnside, FDR, Washington Street, Channel Street, and others. There’s a trailer online, or if you are in Portland tonight, Shrunken Head is sponsoring two showings at the Clinton Street Theater, located at 2522 SE Clinton St. The all ages showing is at 7pm and the 21 and over showing is at 9pm.
