More hot, wet unicorn action
Earth Patrol Media has finished posting their Sleestock 2007 pictures. Above area a few of my favorites. Top is a kid named andy with an Andrecht on the hip. So Rad. On the bottom is this year’s answer to last year’s parking lot cooler session. Next, check out Tim Eberly’s Bangles inspired stance in the middle bottom. He does this weird thing sometimes when he drops in, at the last second he turns his back foot parallel to the board. He’s shifty! Lastly, it’s the man with the plan, the Stak’s own Bobcat. Noticeably absent from the gallery? Me! Come on man, I learned how to carve over the stairs with my hand on the bottom step. EPM caught it on film and I was quite pleased with myself. Maybe I looked like Hitler again. Fortunately there is plenty of other viewage available. Check out EPM’s Sleetsock 2007 coverage.
Great Montana Skate Race
Skate Montana sent in this announcement for the Great Montana Skate Race being held on August 11th in Dillon, home of the figure eight skatepark we mentioned about a year ago. I’m not sure if it qualifies as park slalom or bordercross, but I’ll bet it’s a blast. Old Grover is always trying to start impromptu races around the outside of Oregon’s parks. I’ll bet he’s jonesing for GVK coverage of this event. Dillion links and vid after the jump.
5th Annual Sea Fair BBQ Jam/Sesh
If you live in the Puget Sound area then your well aware of this 5th Annual Sea Fair BBQ Jam, if your outside that massive metro area- then this is for you. Its not a contest, brought to you by Matt Levens at NW Snowboards (Tacoma) fame. Pile into the car, and show up- it’s all about fun.
More Sleestock Coverage
The Skateboard Archives has two pages of pictures from Sleestock 2007 that look like they were taken around the same time mine were.
I went to Sleestock 07 and all I took was 4 crummy pictures
I went to Sleestock 2007 and I only took four pictures. Two of them are butt shots, and one is of a local that who was definitely not into having his park invaded by the likes of the Stak, or probably anyone else for that matter. I took five pictures actually, but one was a bail. “Why have you forsaken me?” you ask. Well I can’t answer that. It certainly wasn’t for lack ripping or interesting subject matter, and the turnout was good. I felt like taking it easy while not wrecking myself in the bowl. And I forgot all my stickers. I was, basically, useless. There were plenty of other cameras there so we’ll keep you updated. If you post pictures drop me an email and I’ll put together some links. Until then, you can view SnA’s massive coverage after the jump. Thanks to Bobcat for putting it all together again.
Vancouver Washington Skatepark Policy Meeting
A skatepark policy meeting will be held on Wednesday, July 18, 2007 at 7 p.m. at Fisher’s Grange Hall, located at 814 NE 162nd Avenue (just a few blocks from Pacific Park). Vancouver Washington area skaters should turn up for this meeting. Multiple sources report that the other meetings were 90% BMXers, which is great for them and embarrassing for skateboarders, especially considering the history of skater activism involvement in nearby Portland. Besides, when’s the last time you were asked to help make the rules at a skatepark?
Port Orford 4th of July Session
Matt Kline told us about the 4th of July party session at the Port Orford, Oregon skatepark. We couldn’t make it, but Mrs Shoey (Lori) sent us these pictures taken by Kevin Sorres and Josh T. Then I promptly slapped overbearing watermarks all over them. Now that I’m uploading them I’m thinking it’s a bit much. Sorry guys, won’t happen again. !3 pictures after the jump.
German Anarchist DIY Opening Party
OK, I don’t know if they are actually anarchists or not, but Flora Skatepark is being built behind a building called the Rote Flora in Hamburg, Germany that currently has strong ties with squatter and left-wing groups. Do right-wing squatters exist? The Rote Flora was one of the few theaters in Germany to survive WWII intact. According to Wikipedia, it was used as part of a department store from the 70’s until 1987. Here’s where it gets murky. For some reason there was an uproar by local shopkeepers and and “autonomous groups” (Anarchy!) when a producer wanted to turn it back into a musical theatre. There were clashes with police, and ultimately most of the building was torn down in 1988, only to be renovated and squatted in, leased and un-leased, made a focal issue in an election year, etc… The point is, most renegade concrete projects tend to be located in spots that don’t attract attention. Maybe this one will succeed in finding a permanent location precisely because the adjacent property has such a volatile “hands-off” history. The end result… Opening party for the first part of Flora Skatepark is June 30th, 2007. Thanks to Peter Diepes for the…
Port Orford Party

Everybody has a benefit
Ray Zimmerman AKA MRZ has been known to take a mean photo. You might have seen his work at Concrete Disciples or Concrete Wave on occasion. It looks like he’s got a pile of medical bills due to a nasty ankle break, and his buddies are throwing him a benefit jam on July 14th at the Glendale skatepark. Right about now I’m betting our own Mark Conahan is wondering why we didn’t throw him a benefit jam. [Source: The Skateboard Mag – Photo: Adam Morgan by MRZ (duh!)]
