Dokument Reopening party
Dokument Skate Shop is having a grand reopening on May 2nd, at their new location on 2320 Commerical St. in Salem, OR. I asked Kevein Porterfield for a little eye candy to liven up this post for those of you who don’t live in the area. I’ve got three shots of two team riders, both named Gabe, plus the flyer after the jump. Guess how many stairs in that set up top and win absolutely nothing but a smug sense of satisfaction.
Oldenzaal Snake Run
There’s an old 70’s snakerun park in the Het Hulsbeek recreation park located in Oldenzaal, Netherlands. For the past handful of years they’ve been holding an annual contest series there called “Oerend Hard” that looks like it’s more of a weekend festival of skateboarding and fun than a strict contest. Events typically include a standard downhill race, boardercross, jump ramp, best trick, and something you never, ever see anymore, the two man catamaran. The Netherlands Skateboard Federation, or Skateboard Federatie Nederlandis trying to have the park designated as a national historical monument, if for no other reason than they claim it is essentially the last preserved skatepark in Europe from the 70’s that is still in widespread use. I know there are still some 70’s skatepark remnants in the U.K., so perhaps the key phrase is “widespread use.” I don’t think the park is in any eminent danger of being destroyed, they are just being proactive about it. Check out the press release presentation that includes photos through the years, including the construction. It made the news, but I can’t understand a word they are saying, and it’s buried in a long video. I did find a nice video run…
Video: Matt’s Bowl Benefit Tour
Here’s my video wrap up of our mini tour of southern Oregon skateparks that I made with Rich and MC on the occasion of Matt Kline’s BBQ session fundraiser for his bowl in Grants Pass Oregon. With apologies to Steve Grover, because I wouldn’t have brought my video camera if he hadn’t called me up and told me to shoot some “Spring Break” footage. When I lost the photos from this trip I was only able to avoid completely losing my mental health by the calming realization that I at least had some fun video footage. My apologies to the park locals who cooperated for the still photos. Chances are Rich might have some of you if you were in Winston, Matt’s Bowl, Myrtle Creek or Harrisburg. Yes, I am accepting donations towards a steadicam…
SOTW 3-30-09: Shane Bell at Matt’s Bowl
This week’s Shot of the Week is from Rich Burton’s fully functioning memory card. It’s Addikt Skateboards rider Shane Bell, a half hour or so before he broke his leg at Matt’s Bowl benefit BBQ in Grants Pass, Or. This is a cropped version of Rich’s shot. Check out the full frame Shot of the Week.
Winston, Myrtle Creek, Harrisburg, Grants Pass tour
I went on a really fun road trip last weekend. I went down to Grants Pass for a fundraiser party/session at a private bowl. Along the way I stopped at three brand new skateparks in Oregon, including, Winston, Myrtle Creek, and Harrisburg. I even went to the old Grants Pass skatepark for the first time. I took a little over 200 pictures, and lost them all to a corrupt memory card. Unfortunately, this isn’t an April fools joke. Those three up top were the best I could salvage. I don’t want to hear any arguments about why film is better, because I’ve had catastrophic failures there too. Rich has some shots up from the bowl party, Harrisburg, Or and Winston, Or. I imagine he’ll be doling them out over the next week or so. Still, it could have been worse, I could have broke my leg like Shane Bell did.
Saturday on Sunday
This is a photo of Jeremy Davis taken by Richie McCorkle. The real reason for this is to point to a video of an event that Saturday Skateboards in Charlotte, NC recently had, called the Saturday on Sunday party. They’ve got an indoor skatepark with some great art on the walls. The party had live music, skateboarding and shenanigans. This is one of those things where the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. I don’t know if it’s the audio track or what, but the whole thing made me smile. If you aren’t from North Carolina and the name Saturday Skateboards ring a bell, it may be because we had a team rider photo as a Shot of the Week last summer.
Matt’s Bowl BBQ
Road Trip! Matt Klein is throwing a party as a fundraiser for the expansion of his backyard skate oasis. We rode through there nine months ago on a skate trip. Matt is a great guy and the bowl is rad! I can’t wait check out his new additions. coincidentally there are a couple of new skateparks open down that way – Myrtle Creek and Winston. More BBQ details after the jump.

Milan Spasic created a pool skating documentary called Chlorine in 2003. SnA has posted about his Rip City Project a couple of times. Well, I don’t know what happened to Rick Coyle who started the project but the thing seems to be in the can. The Portland premiere is Tuesday March 24, 2009 at the Doug Fir Doors at 8pm, Showing at 9:30pm. FREE!! Sponsored by Fuel TV and NikeSB.
Nor Cal Ramp Jam
Unless they get rained out again… This Saturday the 28th there will be a ramp Jam at the Norcal Surf Shop (650-738-9283) in Pacifica CA, next to the Linda Mar (Taco Bell) Beach, 1 Block North of the Skatepark on Highway 1 (Cabrillo Hwy) at 5460 Coast Hwy. How’s that for specifics? Live music and DJ’s too. It starts at 1pm, but there will be an informal warm up session at the nearby concrete skatepark. Click to enlarge.
