BCSA Art & Music Benefit March 14th
The Benton County Skateboard Alliance is holding their second annual music and art benefit for the skatepark they are trying to get built. These guys are making it happen, and if you are near that part of Oregon this Saturday you should make a point of helping them out. Last year’s event looked like it was well attended and fun to boot. Live music and an art show/sale to benefit the concrete. Details at the BCSA site, or you can check out a flyer for the event by Diego Banuelos after the jump.
DIY East Coast Indoor
I met a guy from Minnesota who looked about the right age, so I asked him he skated P.I.S.S. back in the day, and he had. P.I.S.S. for those that don’t know, was an indoor ramp in a building. To skate it you had to pay rent, hence, Private Indoor Skate Spot. A few of us got somewhat serious about setting up a situation like that in Portland. We got as far as checking out spaces, but it all came to naught. Slap Magazine has a feature that, uh, features someone who noses around here on occasion, it’s called DIY East Coast Indoor Parks. Doc Murdock is interviewed as one of the principals in four indoor private spots on the east coast. Pics and video from each spot. Check it out.
Ditch skating monorail
Take a piece of plywood, a 2×4 and the trucks from some dimestore skateboards and you’ve got a trolley for ditch surfing. It’s not much different from the plans I’ve seen in various places online for making a camera dolly. Listen, I’m flying home all day today, and I needed something quick. Drainage ditch luge instructions online at Instructables.
Concrete avarice
Somewhere in the land of amusement park skate terrain, an individual, or individuals have decided that they need more concrete. The thinking goes, “The skatepark is fine, but it’s not mine!” Actually, this came from Carl Warren, and was labeled as a “side project.” He didn’t say, and I didn’t think to ask him. I don’t know if it’s DIY or not, but it certainly looks like a private situation. More shots after the jump. Go for it!
Rain delay
If you’re not into the wacky snow skate technology, or it’s raining instead of snowing, you have to make your fun. Kevin Porterfield from Dokument skate shop in Salem, OR threw together a quickie quaterpipe for some indoor action. Catch two photos after the jump.
Le coping dans La Caverene
October of last year we published some pics of a DIY concrete project in France called La Caverne that prompted one of our smart-assed readers to comment “put some coping on that shit.” Salah Mehdi sent in some pictures of just that. I don’t know if “coping” is a masculine or feminine noun, for some reason they didn’t cover that in high school French classes.
Nukala and Goetz
Michael Goetz of The Skateboard Archives shot Chris Nukala at a renegade project and it showed up as Thrasher stoke of the day.
Fundraiser for Hood River
Trying to raise funds for the skate park in hood river. Purchase any image from the photo shelter site and 20% will be donated to help with a new bonus section. Thanks – Carl Warren Photography
Built to Skate 2008
Lat year we highlighted the Built to Skate video, and now it’s time for another look. 2008’s version is available in two sizes 320×240 and 640×480. In case you don’t remember, the Built to Skate crew in Austria (who are they? I mean, where’s the link?) spends some time pouring guerilla concrete to make found obstacles more skateable, then they go out and document the session. Sounds great, right? It is pretty great. I liked last year’s video better, but maybe that’s because it was the first time I was introduced to the concept. In any case, it’s still a great concept. Check it out. – Thanks to Roman Astleitner for the tip.
Marginal Way benefit trifecta
“On the third day of Marginal Way benefits, my true love gave to me… Three pool trowels, two coping blocks, and a square yard of rebarred concrete.” That’s right. There are three consecutive days of Marginal Way benefits at three different locations this weekend. Information at the online home of Marginal Way.
