All 80’s Vert Challenge
SoCal Skateparks has a bunch of video from the 80’s vert challenge that happened at some point in time that is probably still sitting unread in my Google Alerts mailbox. Low purse and high fun. Everyone wore neon, and Hosoi complete with spandex and hair extensions should have won best-dressed, although maybe he did, as there was a special cash prize for finishing dead last. Check it out on SoCal Skateparks Skate-TV. – Thanks to JF for the tip.

Around the world on four wheels
In Brazil, Danny Way broke his back on the Megaramp. He will recover, of course, because all Megaramp competitors are actually time traveling cyborgs built by Skynet. Watch the video after the jump. It’s not in English, but really, it’s more entertaining this way. Speaking of entertainment. Rob Thomson now holds the world record for Longest Journey by Skateboard, clocking in at 12,159km, or about 7,500 miles. It’s confusing though, because the “journey” took place in different non-adjacent locales and had periods of weeks in between legs. Sounds more like a record for the biggest lapse of judgement by Guinness officials. Maybe they cut him some slack due to the unsual circumstances reported by One India: The strangest food he tried was horse-penis salami in Kyrgyzstan, which he said tasted “like the smell of a sweaty, old, dirty horse. Uh yeah. Go figure. You can read all about it in his forthcoming book about the experience.
SOTW 11-10-08: Rumble in Ramona
This shot breaks a cardinal rule for skate photos, but the outstretched hand in combination with the butt shot makes it interesting to me. This is Omar Hassan at the Rumble in Ramona, Creature’s invite only vert ramp contest held the 17th and 18th of October. You’re seeing it here because Davoud from Concussion shot it, and he’s got more cardinal rules than I do. I thinkthis breaks three of his, Butt shot, fisheye lens and pads. Who knows, he may even be wearing a helmet. You can check out this week’s Shot of the Week or watch some video from the event after the jump, courtesy of Transworld. It’s set to auto play, so mute your speaker before you jump if you need to.

SOB Baggy vs. Tight
You’ve all heard of the Goofy vs. Regular foot contest, but here’s an amusing twist. Skatepark of Baltimore “Baggy vs Tight” Skate Contest at the “Pants Ramp.” On Sunday, October 5th The S.O.B. held a skate contest on the pants ramp, Baggy pants skaters vs. Tight pants skaters. They had heats and eliminations narrowing it down to five riders representing each side then they squared off for the best run. The video is mostly useful for getting a look at the Pants ramp that was “accidentally” torn down by city officials. They must have got it put back up. – Thanks to Stepahanie Murdock for the tip.
Some Tim Brauch contest shots
Scott Selover sent in a handful of pics from The Tim Brauch Memorial contest. It’s all old men or young kids! He said they weren’t up to SnA standards, but I showed him! Don’t forget that results are at Skate Daily and there are some more pics from Larry over here. Otherwise, Scott’s pics after the jump.
Tim Brauch memorial Contest Saturday and Sunday
Sessions presents the 10th annual Tim Brauch Memorial Contest is being held this weekend at Lake Cunningham Regional Skate park in San Jose. We might even have some photos coming to us. I wonder how the documentary is coming.
2008 Oregon Trifecta: More Battle Ground pics
OK, the last of our 2008 Oregon Trifecta coverage has finally come straggling in. That’s Bacon’s Tim Johnson in the shot above. Check it out.
Oregon Trifecta 2008: Battle Ground Coverage
Day three of the Trifecta and I may actually be getting worse as a photographer instead of better. Half of these pictures look like they were taken underwater. I remember having some sort of technical issue with my camera acting up, but it’s been two weeks since I’ve looked at the pictures, and it’s all a blur, sometimes literally. I think I caught the equivalent of Gulf War Syndrome from the Trifecta. Trifecta Syndrome manifests itself in laziness, general malaise and increased frequency of excuses. You may wonder why I chose such a mediocre action shot for this post. It’s true it’s not a great skate shot or particularly well exposed for that matter, but I do like the way you get a sense of all the eyes focusing on the skating, from the spectators to the photographers to the video camera boom. Check out page one of Oregon Trifecta 2008: Battle Ground.
