BCSA Call For Art!
The Benton County Skateboarding Alliance (BCSA) is hosting the 5th annual Art & Music Benefit to raise money for improvements to the Eric Scott McKinley Skate Park in Corvallis. We have over $13,500 of the $75,000 to $90,000 needed for the first phase—(a 3,000 sq ft skate bowl). Additional phases include: advanced street terrain, Eric Scott McKinley memorial, and improved family facilities (seating, BBQs, etc). All media is accepted; Art must be ready to hang or display. The BCSA is inviting available local artists to help hang art and work the art show (arrangements must be made in advance). Artists that help with the show may get up to 60% of the proceeds from their art sales otherwise artists are asked donate at least 60% of their art sales to the skate park fund. Space may be limited so the BCSA may have to limit the number of pieces accepted. Thank you for your interest in this event. The show is planned for June 02, 2012 at the Corvallis Elks Lodge. The deadline for art submissions is May 12, 2012. For more information, contact the BCSA: bcskateboardingalliance@gmail.com I threaten to go to this every year, but they won’t sign my…

More waste paper, more resin, more skateboards
More, more, more. How do ya like it? How do ya like it? What do you do with a couple hundred misprinted design retrospective books? Invite other designers to see what they can make of them. Alberto Villarreal and his team at AGENT, ended up weaving them together and covering them with resin in a homemade mold to make skateboards. Super strong, but heavier and more flexible than wood, so it’s not going to be mass produced any time soon. [Source: Make] – Thanks to Eric Cherry for the tip.
Halfondergrondse
Somebody’s house in the Netherlands has skateboards for stairs, as seen on Architectenweb.nl. Nice to look at, probably annoying to walk on. Again, I applaud the gumption of anyone who executes and idea so well, but then sometimes it just isn’t worth it. – Thanks to Matthijs for the tip
30 – Love
Frank Kunert builds and photographs amazing little scenes worthy of the Far Side like Tennis Halfpipe, and that’s all there is to it. – Do I need to credit tips from MC?
Sit down for number one
Skate Bench #1 on sale for $255(!) Which is $75 off! Originally part of a kickstarter campaign. Looks pretty cool, but the price is hard to swallow. Videos after the jump. Fancy pics at Kem Studio.
Gripper Heat?
The magic of the Interwebs™ allows us to reach out to people all over the world and not be able to understand what they want. I got an email with a flyer and text in a character set that I couldn’t read. It looks vaguely like Hebrew to me. There’s a skate art exhibit, but who know where or when? It did come with a web link to Thrash Addiction.
Dubai skateable art
Near as I can tell, Tashkeel is like a health club for artists living the United Arab Emirates. I don’t mean an actual health club, but like a health club. You know, pay your dues and and you get to go the art club and use the facilities to make art. Pay some extra money and you get to take some fancy classes. What’s up for workshops now? Skateboarding. We’re all artists, every time we step on a board. What’s the skate terrain equivalent of one a Tippy the Turtle art test? Whatever the rationale, the end result looks fun. Check it out after the jump. – Thanks to Boy Ipoh for the tip. ( Note, Boy is going to arm wrestle Matthijs for the King of Tips belt.)
Cardboard Skateboards
These 100% cardboard skateboards from Bill Barminski are really cool. Not quite $1000 cool, but maybe he prices them that high so he doesn’t have to turn them over to anyone else. [Source: BoingBoing] – Thanks to Seth Levy for the tip.
