Pregnant Paralympian Skater
ANNE Brunell is a skateboarder with a difference. When pregnancy made it impossible for this paralympian and mother of two to wear her artificial legs, she relied on her trusty skateboard to get around. Despite being born without her lower legs, Ms Brunell has made the most of every opportunity with vigour, passion and a laugh. Today she will be one of 30 women inducted into the Victorian Honour Roll of Women by Women’s Affairs Minister Jacinta Allan to commemorate International Women’s Day. Be nice in the comments. Captain Radical
So we’ve go an eBay vibe running. Here’s an old auction I sent to Neil but he didn’t cover it because it was he forgot, or I never sent it to him in the first place. I can’t remember a thing about this other than I think it was from the U.K.. Quite an awesome starter package though. I’m a hair’s breadth away from having some Captain Radical stickers made for Skate and Annoy. I remember a lengthy discussion about this sticker, but when and where? Slightly larger pics and an additional shot after the jump.
Wrestlemania!
Here you go Neil. Your connection between skateboarding and wrestling. What starts off as a two person altercation between a skater and rollerblader ends up as a 15+ person pyramid death match. One kid pulls a leg drop on his victim. They even jump the referee park supervisor. It’s a very low impact (slap fest!) fight between mostly youngsters. I think these kids must have all been friends, but it’s amusing nonetheless. It’s funny to hear little twerps shouting “Ow! My leg!” Given today’s school-violence hysteria, I’m surprised there wasn’t a more heavy handed reaction from the authorities. Catch the video after the jump. [Source: Worldwide Skateboarding]
eBay Watch February 2007
2007 continues red hot in February. Some really big numbers this month on some really surprising items. One I think has to be a mistake by the buyer, but more of that later. The first thing I want to say this month is I’m not a free advice column. I must get three emails a month from people looking for advice on how to sell their shit on eBay for maximum profit. Why should I help? Give me an incentive and I might, but for right now, the free advice column is CLOSED. The worst thing is, they never even say “I really like your column” or anything like that. It’s always right to business: “I’ve got a 1987 Jeff Grosso in great condition. How much can I get for it, maximum?” Fuck off.
A commercial a day… oh wait.
The first time I went to college I lived in a dive of a house with 14 people called Ten Shitty Guys. The McDonalds monopoly game was new-ish at the time and we pooled our game pieces in the house to try and win. One day we thought we won $1000 or something like that, so we marched down to McDonalds to try and get paid. Turned out that there was another Monopoly based promotion going on somewhere else with game pieces that were almost identical. We won a prize all right, first place jackasses. Here’s a 2006 (I think) commercial for McDonalds Monopoly game promotion with a Best Buy connection, and (implied) vert skating…
And now, a word from our sponsor…
Skate and Annoy is proud to announce our first corporate sponsor, Skateboard Steve’s. Lets see, 24 frames per second multiplied by total seconds multiplied by a picture is worth a 1000 words = ________. Catch the vid after the jump.
411VM on iTunes
411 is really good. well the good issues are. not the ones w/ crappy pros like prod and colin mckay OK, so there are detractors, like the Dok said in his iTunes review above, but a lot of people are happy about the fact that you can now buy 411VM episodes on iTunes at $1.99 an episode or $11.99 for a season of 8. I don’t know if each iTunes episode is equivalent to an existing 411VM DVD in length, it doesn’t make it clear. I can think of worse ways to spend $12. It beats buying headphones to watch a crappy movie on an airplane. [Source: Playlist]
No kook left behind.
Streetsurfing has been a huge success in American schools and now pupils in Dorset are among the first in the UK to try it out as part of their PE lessons. You’re kidding right? A huge success? Hey, I’ve got a Monorail I want to sell you, but maybe that’s more of a Shelbyville idea… More schools that teach skateboarding in PE, as well as this one in the UK that teaches kookboarding.
Over it! (part 2)
The Skateboarding Robot and the stop-action animated Human Skateboard. Really. That’s enough. Stop writing about it on your blog. (Oops! Too late.) Just in case you haven’t seen it yet, there’s more after the jump, including the the Subhuman Skateboard, AKA the Britney Spears remix.
Don’t Call It “The Dew Action Sports Tour” No More!
I just got an email from someone I’ve never met in this wonderful skateboard industry. Getting stuff like this is sorta funny to me because it really doesn’t matter to me. I’ll still go, because I have to scope out the next big name in skateboarding. Like for instance- young David Loy won this event last year in the SCAM THE AM tour- now the kid is featured in the Jeep commercial with the Birdman. Well with this announcement they are challenging the best english teachers across the good ole USA by doing this: “Please see the attached press release announcing the re-branding of the Dew Tour. Moving forward we will no longer be referred to as the “Dew Action Sports Tour. ” Our new name is the “ASPT Dew Tour, The Action Sports Pro Tour.” Moving forward please refer to us as the “ASPT Dew Tour” or the “Dew Tour” and no longer use the “Dew Action Sports Tour” callout or logos when referencing the tour. Our site has also changed to www.asptdewtour.com .” Well, you heard it here first. Big Whoop-eee!
