I have no idea what the date is on this set. It’s #191, and still a Questor/Child Guidance company. Playschool bought them in 1985. The packaging on this looks like some sets from the late 70s. The one I have does not actually have enough pieces to build a skateboard or anything else, so I essentially bought a container for 3 bucks. UPDATE: Added some pics of more complete set with instructions from Ebay.

PORTLAND – Officers arrested a suspect after a man was stabbed at the Burnside Skatepark late Friday evening, police said. Just before 10:30 p.m., a man was stabbed in the leg after getting in a verbal altercation while skating under the Burnside Bridge on Southeast 2nd Avenue, said Sgt. Pete Simpson with Portland police. The victim was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police arrested 29-year-old Jeremy Moore Friday night and booked him in the Multnomah County Jail on first-degree assault charges. [Source: KGW]

Vogue Magazine has a spread on “model turned photographer” Hanneli Mustaparta’s “Skater Style” which isn’t really coming across in these photos, or maybe I don’t know what skater style is. These are Hanneli’s photos and/or photos of Hannah. Although her style doesn’t typically skew toward the disheveled, urban uniform of most New York City skateboarders, Hanneli Mustaparta puts her obsession with the pastime down to growing up in Norway where the sport was once illegal. “That made it mysterious and cool,” she recalls. It would be more than a little farfetched to call her polished threads rebellious, but the type of clean, modern apparel that she’s documented wearing on street-style blogs certainly make for a more unexpected approach to dressing for sidewalk surfing. “I got my first longboard back in 2008,” says Mustaparta, who uses it to glide from A to B. The Star-News in Wilmington, North Carolina asks “Has your princess stopped dressing like one?” in hopes of getting you to place a classified ad for a yard sale so you can get rid of all her “pretty, fashionable clothes to make room for baggy jeans and t-shirts.” Princess doesn’t have to be worried about being embarrassed though, she’s at least a decade more mature now. Although this ad ran recently in December of 2012, the magic of Google News turned up the same advert back in 2007 and again as early as 2005! I’m not sure what I’m more surprised by, a newspaper running an 8 year old ad campaign (Newspapers dying? But they’re so current!) or the fact that Google has an archive of random newspapers. To be fair, the ad campaign is a good one, and the newspaper archive appeals to the packrat historian in me. I just wish they had better scans, and a little information about the newspaper.
