Burnside is an E-ticket right?
Great thread on Concrete Disciples about a guy who took his kids to Burnside and got vibed by the locals. His threats to start a petition to try to get Burnside closed ruffled a few feathers. Abuse is heaped, the terrorists win. Pretty funny that he ends up getting vibed on the website too! I’m going to go out on a limb and call the TimK SnA’s Douchebag of the Week. I’m guessing his next petition will try to close down the Indy500 because they wouldn’t let his kids ride their pedal cars on the track.
Drop In with Airspeed’s Geth Noble
I put in a brief appearance at the Vancouver leg of the Drop-In with Airspeed’s Geth Noble yesterday. A handful of people showed up, and it was a good time. I don’t know if he learned anything useful, but he listened and skated well. I hate to disappoint Danimal, but I only took a few pictures. You can see them all after the jump.
Perverted thinking
Remember that cool London subterranean skate plaza project we covered a while back? Skate Daily alerts us to the fact that it’s open only to skaters under 18 except for a couple of hours one night a week. Bullshit! I bet the thing was organized and built by skaters over 18. Sign the petition and tell them why having older skaters there would be a good idea. (Closer to home, the St Charles County skatepark in Near St Louis Missouri also has very restricted access for anyone over the age of 18. – K.Ed)

More Create a Skate
Troy’s pictures from Create A Skate at the Dew Tour. That’s Paul Schmitt giving us the overview. The next step toward global domination – inserting skateboarding into the educational process. We have already taken over sports, art and politics. It is a great program, talk to your kids’ teachers.
Good, clean fun.
While you are out sessioning the new Vancouver Washington skate park this weekend, keep your eyes open for these guys and thank them for taking time off work to help clean off the graffiti so the parks district would actually open the place. If you think you know who’s tagging the park, please help them learn not to be such mental midgets, by any means necessary. Photo and elbow grease by Earth Patrol Media. That’s Mark Conahan as Mr Clean. Thanks guys, Reinert too.
Create A Skate
Paul Schmitt has a curriculum he is trying to sell to schools. Kids apply math and vocabulary, and stuff they learned about trees by watching a video while designing and making a skateboard.
Gabriel Park design update
Here’s the latest iteration of the Gabriel Park skatepark design from AirSpeed Skateparks. The public meeting where they presented this was not well attended so they are looking for more input. The comment period ends on next Monday, so get on over there and give them some feedback. You can see larger versions of the renderings after the jump.
Resistance is futile! Joey Neckchain Williams update.
When I went to college (the first time…) we had a nickname for the mindless goons and frat boys thugs that used to clog up the campus. We called them Joey Neckchains after the gold chains that were inevitably peaking out of their Izod shirts with the collar flipped up. Now, I suspect we’d have to change that to Joey Williams. There were protests and such after he was reinstated to his job on the police force after being cleared of wrong doing, in spite of being caught on tape acting like a bully instead of a police man. I’m of the position that just because someone acts like an idiot, a policeman’s job is to not act like an even bigger jackass. Surely his skin is thick enough and he possesses enough self control to not let a teenager get the better of him. I guess not. Scary thing is, that guy has a gun. Awesome. Anyway, I need to stop Jason Waite from littering the comments on Skate and Annoy with his petition spam, so check out the movement to get the Hot Springs, Arkansas Police Department to reopen the investigation. Yeah… Good luck with that. Tell you…
Help remove chimp feces at Vancouver
10 a.m. Monday August 13th!
If you have anything left after the Trifecta, the contractor plans to remove the latest round of graffiti from the new Extreme Sports Park at Pacific Community Park starting at 10 a.m. on Monday, August 13. They got several gallons of a graffiti removal product called “EnviroStrip” from the city of Vancouver that Grindline also used on the park once. It works very well and is environmentally friendly. You just paint it on, let it sit and pressure wash it off. If anyone out there is interested in helping with this removal effort, and is available during this time, we would LOVE the help. There is a whole lot of paint to remove this time – on pretty much on every part of the park (I won’t post graffiti photos because it’s like getting up again isn’t it? I cobbled the above together from one of the photos.). If you can make it, just show up at the park after 10 a.m. and ask for Steve Ambuehl. He will provide brushes, gloves, the product and the pressure washer. You just need to bring yourself, some drinking water, sunscreen (if it’s actually sunny), and comfortable clothes you don’t mind getting really…
