Skate Rock benefit in PDX
Benefit for Skaters for Portland Skateparks this Saturday, June 11th a 8pm. Where? Plan B, located at 1305 Southeast 8th Avenue in Portland, Oregon.
Skateistan continues to prosper
Not only is Bilal on the Afghan national paralympics basketball team, he also enjoys the Skateistan project. He’s looking to connect with other similarly challenged skaters and athletes in hopes of establishing a network for communicating and hopefully scoring some better wheelchairs for the basketball team. Check out the vid after the jump. – Thanks to Sandoric for the tip.
Spin the Iceman
Portland skateboarders foiled a possibly deadly assault on a woman, knocking out the ice pick wielding assailant with a skateboard and holding him until police arrived. Good job citizens. Were these skaters the PDX equivalent of the Red Angels of Dragnet City? (Noprize anyone?) Nope, they were skating a recently built concrete ramp outside of River City Bicycles, where the owner of the shop had the ramps built specifically “for learning tricks on.” While he doesn’t specify whether it was built for skateboards or bicycles, he credits the “quarter pipe” with saving the woman’s life. OK, we can give him that. There’s room for bikes and skaters to get along in Portland (BIke lane! Bike Lane!) especially if you keep building spots for us… As long as you look up the definition of quarter pipe. Is it just me, or does that look like banks and not tranny? – Thanks to Shawn F and Sam for the tip. [Source: BikePortland]

Kenton Skatepark Benefit
Portland has a plan for 19 skateparks but the budget just isn’t there. North Portland locals are taking matters into their own hands. Live bands, free skateboarding at the benefit show for the Kenton Neighborhood Skatepark this Saturday February 5th at Portland’s Rip City Skates.
Random BCSA post
This is a Colin Walsh (Rules) picture of Brian Summer at the Corvallis park, making it look good. What’s the point? Well to annoy Carl with another skatepark shot and to remind everyone about the BCSA call for art. Video highlights of last year’s benefit event after the jump.
BCSA Call for art
The Benton County Skateboarding Alliance is looking art to show and sell at the forth Annual Art & Music Benefit to raise money to improve the Eric Scott McKinley Skatepark in Corvallis, OR. They’re currently raised about 10% of their 90k goal, so there’s a ways to go. I’m pleased to say that I’m already prepared to send a few things.
X-Mas Sugar Session in Florida for Cuba
Its Sugars 43rd Birthday so come skate with a dinosaur! Dress like an oldschool skater and get in free, ride a cruiser get in free, over the age of 30 get in free!!! The contest is mainly for fun, although there will be prizes and a product toss; but the real purpose of the event is to gather old skateboard equipment to be refurbished and to raise funds to buy new skateboards that will be taken to Cuba. There is a growing skate scene in Cuba but there arent any skate shops or any money to buy gear. Skaters only have the equipmet that is brought on to the island by tourists so if a skateboard breaks there isnt going to be another one to replace it. Unfortunatly, skaters in Cuba have gone weeks or even months looking for another deck to ride and if you skate you can imagine how bad that must suck! Please bring in your old wheels, trucks, decks and even tshirts or donate a couple of bucks and we will put it down on some new stuff. We have no political adgenda, we are just a family of skaters who see a need and want…
