Bluegrass Aggression Session 1988
There once was an NSA contest in Louisville Kentucky called the Bluegrass Aggression Session, and nobody came to watch it. Somehow they let me on floor to take pictures during the practices and prelims. There were other guys from organizations like Lapper Magazine, Stuf, and even a certain GBJ. There was a monster vert ramp and a street course as well. On the left we have Eddie Reategui, and on the right we have the same obstacle, different viewpoint. Skater unknown. Full frame and enlargements after the jump.
Guy on web more bitter than me!
Sure, I’m pretty bitter. I make flippant and offhanded comments about things, and sometimes people get mad, or stupid. Yeah, we’ve even got the Annoying Kid of the Month, but most of those kids aren’t even that annoying, just funny. Muzenrider over at the Sakteboard Mag might be worse than me. The question is, who is more pathetic? Muzenrider for ragging on what tricks kids put in their YouTube videos, or Kilwag for needing to comment on it?
Forbes Magazine Hearts Dyrdek (and Cockfighting!)
Why is Rob Dyrdek on Forbes.com? It’s only five paragraphs titled Rob Dyrdek On Pro Skateboarding. It doesn’t talk about money or business except to say one year he only sold one board and got a $2 royalty check. (What was his 1991 pro model anyone? Anyone?) This is baffling. Someone must be drunk over in the editorial department. In the Games section (Why is there a games section in a business magazine?) you can find Dyrdek’s interview link two entries above a cockfight organizer.
Big O Pipe Fiends get a book.
I’ve seen pics of this spot in the mags over the years, and while they may have said Big O in some of the captions, they pretty much never said where the damn thing was, which is Montreal. It’s one of the more iconic skate spots, that’s for sure, especially since it’s not designed for skateboarding. Every time a picture would turn up I’d be surprised that it was still around and hadn’t been skate-stopped. Turns out it was going to be destroyed, but now it lives. MudScout Media is publishing a book about it called Pipe Fiends. If you are in Montreal on Dec. 15 you can go to the book launch from 8-12 pm at NEST (3673 St-Dominique, Montreal). If you are looking for more info, the Montreal Mirror has an article, SaveThePipe appears to be the de facto web presence, and Parfond.com currently has 62 (!) images in a gallery dedicated to the spot. Stop and think about the fact that such a small spot is important enough and has been around long enough to merit having it’s own book. Pretty amazing. DC Gives Away $65,000 Gumball Rally Car
IRVINE, Calif.–DC Shoes and Action Pursuit Group, producers of Hot Import Nights (HIN) and HINCity, gave one car enthusiast the ultimate “drive all day party all night” prize package. Dave Senders won DC Shoes’ custom Gumball 3000 Subaru WRX STi, which was driven by pro-skateboarder Rob Dyrdek in the infamous European race… …Senders is now the proud owner of the $65,000 DC Shoes Subaru STi. $65,000? Huh. I wonder if those guys over at DC Shoes are making any money? Poached from The Auto Channel via
Coast to coast!
Think we concentrate on covering Portland Oregon? That’s absurd! We also cover Portland… Maine. Our occasional roving reporter Jason Schomaker sent us three pictures and would like to remind us, East Coast Rules! (add !!!!)
Will it make you smile?
A while back I stumbled across some videos from these two jokers Adam Colton and Adam Stokowski, also known as Adam2. When I say jokers I mean that in a good way. These two clowns (again, in a good way) have made some interesting videos that often time border on the severely goofy. Let’s face it, they are not going to win any popularity contests over at Concussion. They definitely have more of a Concrete Wave with a little Dan Gesmer vibe going. Even if you don’t dig their style, one thing that definitely comes across is their originality in the pursuit of pure fun in skateboarding, on their own terms and completely unconcerned with mainstream skateboarding. Read the review.
Spot the bail.
Be the first one to spot the bail and win absolutely nothing, compliments of nobody. These shots were taken last night during a heated session in thee back bowl of the D.O.S.. It was pretty cutthroat for about a half an hour there.
Tony Hawk makes you puke!
If you are already figuratively sick of Tony Hawk, this summer you can be literally sick of him on Tony Hawk’s Big Spin. At first I thought this picture of Tony inverted in the rendering above was just for illustration purposes, but when you watch the virtual ride through you’ll see there really is a giant rotating cutout of Tony Hawk
Design your own crappy skateboard
Design your own toy skateboard from 1982. Ugh. I guess if you aren’t going to spring for a real skateboard you might as well let your kid put his own crappy design on it instead having some corporate toy or movie tie in. Who is this mysterious ZR? I don’t know, but he must be fast!
