SOTW 4-28-08: The Challenge
This week’s Shot of the Week is from Damienhialation, and it’s called the challenge. Dan told the kids that whoever grinded off his dollar could have it. He’s a giver. Yeah great, but did they get the beer too? I mean, by kids I assume he means freshly turned 21 year olds. Check out the Shot of the Week
Cool Solar Panel Skateboard
This probably fake eBay auction has got to be a misguided attempt to encourage solar energy awareness. The perpetrator needs to dig deeper into the demographics of who is going to be most likely to search for “cool and stylish skateboards” on eBay. And because these things disappear after time, the text is preserved after the jump. What kind of trucks are those, Indy 415’s?
Eyes wide shut at Pistols
I tagged along on a trip to Pistols Skate Shop in Vancouver, Washington last week. I shot a few snaps while managing my kid, and managing to catch Cody Weaver four times in a row with his eyes closed. Of course, that could have had something to do with the flash, except nobody else had closed eyes in the photos. Makes sense though, cause Cody makes it look as easy as if he was asleep.
Skater/artist series for everyone, everything
You can get artists designing a skateboard or two, and skateboarding artists designing skis, skateboard trucks, and soda pop bottles. There are a couple videos after the jump: Chris Pastras & Paul Rodriguez talking about the Mountain Dew bottle they collaborated on, and Andy Howell and Steve Caballero (among others) talking about the skis they designed for Rossignol. Yes, I’m cleaning house and/or phoning it in today. [Sources: South of the North, BevNet]
Where’s the beef?
Well sure, but can he beat him up? An honor student must not have designed this sticker, otherwise it might have had a web address on it. File under “So funny I forgot to laugh.”
Show all fashionable vehicles
Technology is amazing. We live in exciting times! I have a new invention I’m working on. I’d like to somehow combine these old skatebikes (left) with the new bikeboards that are all the rage. I really feel like there’s the potential for something incredibly fun. If I could just figure out how to take the best aspects of both inventions… and call it the bikeless skatebikeboard!
Friday T&A on S&A: Transworld Pin Ups
So apparently Transworld had (has?) some sort of Pin Up of the Month. My subscription lapsed… some years ago, so I don’t know if it’s ongoing. As part of their business model, the idea of a Transworld Skateboarding Pin Up Girl is pretty ironic, considering Transworld was supposedly started as a backlash to some of the more racy content and adverts that were appearing in Thrasher in the early 80’s. Well that, and to make money of course. Here’s a behind the scenes video of one of the photo shots. Classy. I mean, I know we’re posting it here on Skate and Annoy, but it seems so out of place in Transworld. Think of the lost shoe advertisement revenue!
Three electric eclectic wheels
We did wacky Japanese skateparks today, so next up is wacky French three wheeled electric skateboards from the same people who brought you the Girls Allowed Here photo set. It’s called GroundSurf, and of course there are Chinese and Taiwanese knockoffs.
Girl Distribution Orientation Video
I guess this is old, but it was new to me, so here we are. It’s a pretty funny video spoof on corporate orientation videos done by Girl Skateboards. It gets a bit slow and sometimes they get off theme, but overall it’s pretty well done. The “orientation” takes you through a bunch of differnt aspects of the operation. Noticeably absent is the wood shop, so draw your own conclusions. The host is reminiscent of Chris Farley at times. [Source: Dept of Skateboarding]
Concrete Surf in Japan
Today is the day I retread all of yesterday’s posts. This is Concrete Surf at a place called Villa Spica in Japan. 1000 Yen will get you a full day of skating. As of Today that was about $9.56. There aren’t many photos on the official web site. I got these from Black Flys Japan, where you can find more. Looks like there’s a sort of combi bowl in the raised platform and left handed kidney at ground level, and of course the crazy amorphous snake run oozing off the platform. It has “Wooden Toy” embedded a few times in the coping. Anyone know what that’s about, besides the whole Useless Wooden Toys reference? There are three more (blah) pics on Volcom Japan, but it’s worth checking out becasue one of the shots shows the scale and is from a different angle than all the overviews. I have to say, from halfway across the globe, and without ever riding it, I’m a fan. Wacky snake run and all. I like the fact that the lip is raised and spills over onto the flat. I think it needs a bank around the whole perimeter though. japanese readers, send in some pics!…
