Friday T&A on S&A: Longboardgirls

There is a Facebook page called A Longboard Makes a Girl Twice As Hot. It’s disgusting, really. I mean why discriminate against regular sized boards? – Thanks to Matthijs for the tip.

Digging in Spain

The Turf isn’t the only skatepark waiting around to be unearthed. Spain’s first skatepark in… In where? They don’t say! Anyway, they’ve been dogging by hand for over a year and have the freestyle platter and one of the bowls unearthed. The video (Digging) is a about 18 minutes long, and you have to wait about 14 to see some present day skating. I would have liked to see more of the surrounding terrain. It’s like they are keeping it a secret. Confusion says it’s near Barcelona in Arenys de munt. So does S.U.S.C. Digging and bonus vid after the jump. I wonder what’s up with saving the Turf? [Source: Bowl to Be a Trail ] – Thanks to Michael Pfister for the tip.

Implementation of reinforcement

OTRO is a skatepark thinly disguised as art, but hey, I’m not complaining. Whatever you have to call it to get it paid for and built is OK by me. Koo Jeong-A is the artist, the location is… I can’t figure it out, possibly in Brussels. The plans say something about tunnels, but I don’t see them. The construction photos might be the real art. Check it out at L’escaut. Post title comes from the translated caption of one of the rebar photos. – Thanks to Jerome for the tip.

The legend of Roger Fairdale

Roger Fairdale was a famous English cyclist who set several long distance speed records and was even knighted for his acts of bravery. He drowned in the early 1920’s while trying to swim across the English Channel with his bike attached via chain to a padded canvas belted harness. He was memorialized by… Whats that? Oh yeah, right. No. This is a collaboration between Fairdale Bikes (makers of the skaterack) and Roger Skateboards. Check out the video after the jump. If I’m not mistaken, that’s Tim Kerr from the Big Boys making an appearance.

Clown Ramp rebirth

There’s a guy trying to restore the Clown Ramp, I’ve got an email or a Facebook message somewhere that I’ve misplaced. I know he’s looking for people who might know where pieces of it are, mainly the bits that used to be part of Skate Ball. The pic above is from Embassy Skateboards recap of their 2nd Annual Jeff Phillips tribute.

Independent, and wooden

“Original wooden form for the Prototype Independent baseplate, circa 1977.” I wonder how they got the raised text on the baseplate looking so clean. [Source: independenttrucks on Instagram]

Sk8 Tiles

A visitor from another planet landed on earth, approached the ragged leadership of what remained of mankind and asked, “I see you living among the wreckage and waste of a great civilization. Tell us what happened, so we may avoid the same fate.” To which a tired looking twenty something replied, “Well, there was a great disaster. Nobody knew if it was natural or man made. We could have saved ourselves, but all the world’s intellectual and artistic property was posted on bullshit social media sites like Facebook, Tumblr and Pinterest. We couldn’t find the original sources of information to actually fix anything.” I have kitchen backsplash that I plan on installing soon. I don’t think I’m going to go this route, no matter how cool these Sk8 Tiles from Art of Board look. The more I look at it the more I might change my mind. Has anyone checked the futures market for used skateboard decks lately? [Source: Werd] – Thanks to Joey for the tip.

Footloosed on Saturday

Check out the Unheard Skate Supply indoor facility (formerly known as SE Indoor thing) that I keep forgetting to post pictures of. Why, it’s a session and a Bacon Skateboards video on Saturday, May 19th at 1913 SE Haig street in Portland. Sponsor Luv.

Shakastics

Some people find the retro fetish tipping the scale more towards “annoy” than “skate,” but I’m all for it, just as I like the new plastic banana boards. I’m not sure if boards like this ever actually existed though, that shape looks like a direct copy of 60’s era Nash boards, and while they did have that style trucks with composite wheels, I would had guessed urethane wheels would have first appeared on a little bit of a bigger or wider board. Someone (slightly) older than me should clear this up. In any case, these are really nice looking decks, even though I can’t really get behind a name like Shakastics. However, urethane is for wussies. Part of the reason I like these so much is because I am prototyping a steel wheeled version in my garage right now. And you think I’m joking… – Thanks to Seth Levy for the tip.
