Go Over Tough Wave

About a year and a half a go I was at KPub waiting to place an order for some very delicious Korean food when a video for an unknown (to me) Kpop band showed up on the TV screen on the wall near the counter. I assume it’s Kpop, maybe it’s Jpop or some other pop. These dreamy boys cavorted in skateboard related scenarios, complete with subtitles. I have no idea who this band is or what the song title is. I believe there was more “skateboarding” in the video but I didn’t catch very much of it once I decided to try and capture it.

UPDATE: Video identified thanks to Steven Aycock. Band: Ateez. Song: Wave. Skatepark?

By all means, do go over tough wave.

Face it harder! This skatepark looks mid 2000’s.

Wherever you are, including what looks like Korean Target.

Since the original posting, the source has been tracked down. The song is Wave from the band Ateez. I’ve added some proper stills from the video.

Here’s a setup shot. They have discovered a hidden island, somewhere near the Mississippi River (?) and they’re bringing a couch with them. I sure hope they don’t plan on dragging that thing to the…

Goddamnit.

When they aren’t dragging furniture into the skatepark, they do skate a little bit and dance.

Even if you take the translation into account, the lyrics are pretty stupid, especially at the 2:10 mark when they take a break to shout “Hakuna Matata Ya.”

Here’s the video for the song Wave, released in 2019. So it was old news already by the time I saw it in 2023. I know, it’s shocking that I don’t have my finger on the pulse of Kpop.
