collagealva

Real or phony Alva?

This cheap looking Alva complete sold for $118 on eBay a while ago. The sticker on the tail says it’s ‘made in Taiwan’. Sean Cliver thinks some company had a short-lived licensing deal with Alva to produce cheap completes, since there are only a few examples of these Taiwanese decks. Anyway, I did some research: details of this deck and more examples of Alva completes after the jump.

Alva ‘Street Bomb’ wheels:

I found another ‘Alva’ complete on eBay:

This one seems to be from the same ‘series’ as the one above: it has the same Tony Alva signature and Street Bomb wheels:

And finally I found 2 variatons of the ‘Dagger’ board. The 2 pictures on the left I found on silverfishlongboarding, where they also questioned the legitimacy of this deck, this one has a different shape but also has Street Bomb wheels. The deck on the right I found on eBay watch March 2011 and it looks more like the ones above, Neil describes it as a budget complete.

The big difference with the first 2 boards in this post is that the graphic of the white Daggers is clearly copied from an original 1985 Alva team deck: the ‘Dagger Tail’ deck, which has the word ‘tail’ written on the main graphic. The shape of the tail is very unusual though:

  • Like Jason already said, the Conquering Warrior was a real complete and it was also my first proper skateboard (I don’t consider it my first proper pro board). It was sold in sporting goods stores in Australia in the 80. It was better than the plastic wheel cheapy boards from Toy World because the trucks and wheels were actually made out of the correct materials.

  • I have an alva daggertail mini. If someone sees this comment please email me.

I need some varification of this deck

  • The Alva conquering complete was my first board, mine was white. Not sure on the history of it but it was real cheap compared to what my buddy’s were riding but it was purchased from a bike shop that sold legit decks n accessories, this was 1985-6. A couple years later I broke my gonz so I traced it onto the Alva and cut it to shape. Didn’t work out so well cuz it had no pop. Thanks for the post!!! Been trying to find it for awhile now

  • It is real. Excellent shape man. I have the exact same Alva dagger with street bomb wheels. Still skates like a dream. There are 2 versions of this old white one. One with a smooth tail and one with the pac-man ghost botton Tail.
